Roy Osborne Obituary

Roy Stevens Osborne, Sr.

SHREVEPORT, LA - Roy Stevens Osborne Sr., 83 went to be with the Lord, on January 19, 2010. Funeral services will be held at Rose-Neath Southside Friday, January 22, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. with Reverend Terry Love officiating the service. Interment will follow in Centuries Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Rose-Neath Southside Thursday, January 21, 2010.

Roy was born January 22, 1927 in Shreveport, LA. Roy was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy. He established Broadmoor Garage in 1955 and it continues to be a family business. He was respected by his customers and the business community as a man of hard work, honesty and integrity. He was known by his willingness to help his fellow man. After retiring, he enjoyed woodworking, and was an excellent carpenter and all around handyman. He could fix anything! "PeePaw" was happiest when his family was around him. Many things about him will be missed: his sense of humor, the twinkle in his eyes, and the sound of his whistling. Roy enjoyed the fellowship of his many friends at St. Luke's United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Will and Josephine Osborne, one brother, two sisters, and beloved granddaughter Amber Nicole Osborne.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of sixty-two years Elsie Osborne, son Roy Stevens Osborne Jr. and wife Yvonne; grandchildren Jimmy Osborne and Roy Stevens Osborne III and wife Jennifer; great-grandchildren Taylor and Justin Osborne, son Scotty Osborne and wife Kay; grandchildren Alex Osborne and April Salley and husband Russ; great-grandchildren Gus and Ava Salley. Pallbearers will be: Steven, Jimmy, and Alex Osborne, Russ Salley, Eric and Cole Garner.

The family wishes to give their heart-felt thanks to the staff at the VA Medical Center Hematology / Oncology Department and Christus Schumpert Hospice and Grace Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, St. Luke's United Methodist Church or charity of your choice. Rose-Neath Funeral Home

Dear Elsie, Scotty & Steve. We were saddened to hear of Roy's death. We are out of town all last weekend. We admired Roy and trusted our vehicles to Broadmoor Garage since 1969. We will miss seeing him at early Church on Sundays.

Dear Elsie, Steve and Scotty. I just found out about the loss of our neighbor and friend, Roy. Today when one hears so much about what is wrong in the world, one only has to think of Roy and how he represented what is so good about it. He indeed touched many lives and will leave us with such wonderful memories that can never go away. Our thoughts and prayers are indeed with you and if there is anything our family can do for you, you only need to ask. Again, what a giving person Roy was and I cannot begin to thank him enough for all that he gave to us. God bless you and I know you can be proud of the family he helped create.

Peace be with you.........Dave and Joyce Evans

What a wonderful neighbor! He will be missed by all of our family. We appreciate the livelyhood he started and shared with my Father for over 35 years now. I will miss looking over the fence and not seeing him sitting on the porch and saying hello.

My condolences to Ms. Elsie and the entire Osborne family.

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to Roy Stevens Osborne, Sr. our “Brother-in-Arms”. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Roy. And to Roy it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the devoted and selfless service he rendered to his country during WW-II while serving in the U.S. Navy. Roy, we bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at Ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,341 members of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Roy’s family and loved ones.

Roy was a good man. My father "Red" Burnett considered him to be one of the finest businessmen in Shreveport and also considered him a good friend. May God bless you Osborne family as you grieve your loss.
