BOSSIER CITY, LA - Samantha Strate, 36, Bossier City, passed away on February 28th, 2016. A Celebration of Life will be held at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home on Thursday, March 3rd, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. with burial to follow at Hill Crest Memorial Park. There will be a visitation prior to the service from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home.

She was born in Covington, LA on November 19th, 1979. Samantha graduated from Parkway High School. She was married to Shawn Haggerty on March 8th, 2013.

Samantha worked as a dispatcher for UPT and Kennan and had a passion for music.

She was survived by her husband, Shawn Haggerty; mother, Roseann Strate; son, Anthony David Holyfield, JR.; daughter, Dakota Alayne Holyfield; brother, William James Strate, and Charles L. Strate III.

Samantha, don't recall ever having the priviledge of meeting you. But I know you meant a WHOLE LOT to a lot of my "KIDS"..... Charlie, Stephanie, 'Chelle (both of 'em) God, the list goes on forever.... Both of kids I claim, and those who loved you and cherished your friendship. Thank you for the time you spent here, the lives you touched, and especially for loving the ones who are mine. So sorry I didn't get to know you. I missed out.

To Shawn, my dear nephew...I wish I had been able to meet Samantha. I talked to her on Facebook over the years and really felt she was the person that God brought into your life. My heart goes out to you, the children and to Samantha's family. I wish I was there to comfort you but know that you are in my prayers today and the coming days. You will have your ups and downs but know that God is walking this walk with you and is there for you to lean on. Bless the children. This is going to be the most difficult for them. I remember Samantha and Maria working on Rennaisance Faire costumes in our little dining room in the apartment. None of us knew exactly what we were doing but we had fun doing it. I will keep the happy memories of Samantha bright in my heart.

My beautiful, sweet niece, Samantha. I love you and will miss you so much. Even though we were separated by miles, I cherish the times we did spend together. One of my fondest memories was brushing your long, beautiful hair and staying up late on Christmas Eve putting together your Barbie Dream home.

I've known Samantha for over twenty years, and the more I think about her, the more I realize how ever-present she was during so many of the biggest events in my life. She was always bright and bold, and she pushed me to be braver and brighter too. She makes me think of my favorite quote, "We love life - not because we are used to living, but because we are used to loving." I'll never forget her.
