Thomas Mounger Obituary

Thomas Claud Mounger

GLYNN / ARCADIA, LA - Tommy Mounger returned home to Glynnwood on Holy Saturday to celebrate Easter with his beloved family, a tradition long held in the Mounger family. Tommy was happy to be among family and dear friends for the past three weeks, when his journey with cancer ended on May 7, 2009. Tommy was 67 years old, born August 14, 1941. He was a lifetime resident of Glynn and Arcadia, Louisiana. He was a longtime member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lakeland, having served on the church council and as a trustee. He was more recently a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Ruston near his second home, The Refuge, in Arcadia. During his thirty-one year career as a science and biology teacher in Pointe Coupee Parish Public Schools, Tommy touched the lives of thousands of young people. He was much loved by his students and had a positive personal influence on so many of their lives, as well as the lives of his colleagues. Tommy had many passions including skiing which drew him to the mountains of Colorado. As much as he loved the thrill of skiing, he was drawn back to his Louisiana heritage. Tommy loved plantation homes and was especially connected to Pointe Coupee Parish and Glynnwood, his family home. His devotion and love for his family was a dominating force in his life as he proudly wore the role of husband, father, brother and uncle.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Dot Crawley Mounger, Arcadia, as well as his sister and brother-in-law, Faye and Paul LaCour of Baton Rouge; his brother-in-law Otis Leon (Skip) Crawley, Arcadia; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Peggy and Floyd (Bubba) Van Hook, Arcadia; much loved nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and a host of loved cousins and dear friends. Tommy's physical presence in their lives will be greatly missed and never replaced, but his legacy of love, laughter, and hospitality will live forever.

He was preceded in death by his son, Matthew Thomas Mounger, and his parents, Claud Gill and Emma Glynn Mounger.

Visitation will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lakeland on Saturday, May 9 from 10:00 am until Mass of Christian Burial in the church at 1:00 pm, conducted by Rev. Greg Daigle and Rev. Tom Duhe. Burial will follow at Chenal Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Mike Van Hook, Alan Van Hook, Andy Null, Fred Delaney, Clifton Tarver, Charles Hart, Daryl Patin, Bo Connella, Ernest Jewell, Jason Barnes and Steve Loup.
