Walter Myrick Obituary

Walter Thomas Myrick

"Tommy"

Castor, LA - Funeral services for Walter Thomas "Tommy" Myrick, 81, of Castor, LA will be held Saturday, February 8, 2014 at 1:00 P.M. in Rockett Funeral Home Chapel in Ringgold, LA. Officiating will be Brother Floyd Pate. Burial will follow in Mt. Olive Cemetery in Jamestown, LA. Visitation will be Friday, February 7, 2014 at Rockett Funeral Home from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M.

Mr. Myrick passed away on February 1, 2014 in Shreveport, LA with his children and loved ones by his side.

Tommy was born and raised in Castor, Louisiana. He met the mother, Terry Jean Fontenot, of his five children, while she was visiting his sister.

Tommy's first job was in Shreveport at the Holsum Bread Company, which he rode his bike to daily. At age 19, Tommy moved to the Lake Charles/Westlake area, where he and Terry were married and began their family.

The Olin Mathieson Chemical Plant was pleased when Tommy joined their team for the next ten years. While working at Olin Mathieson, Tommy began his own business, Myrick Water Well Service. He continued working at Olin's while building his own business off the ground. His business was very successful for 50 plus years due to his expertise in drilling water wells. After retiring, Tommy returned to his hometown, Castor, Louisiana, where he opened the Castor Café.

Tommy's love for the outdoors (hunting, fishing, etc.) and animals began as a young boy while in the FHA Program at school and all have remained a major part of his life.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Castor and was also on the Board of Directors for the Mount Olive Cemetery.

Family and friends say Tommy was not only well liked in the community, but was very successful throughout his life due to his superb work ethic. His pranks, good sense of humor, and beautiful smile will be missed by everyone.

His children also say they all have very fond memories of their father while growing up and as adults. "Daddy was a wonderful father and is already missed very much. We love you, Daddy!"

The family would like to thank all medical staff that was involved in taking care of their father and for their love and tender care; and to friends for their help and support during such a difficult time.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Milton Myrick and Irene Caskey Myrick Dare; step-father, Daniel Dare; siblings, Willie Polk Myrick, Rodger Marion "Joe" Myrick, Mary Myrick Saale, Harold Myrick; first born grandson, Tommy Wayne Myrick; and mother of his children, Terry Jean Fontenot Myrick.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Tommy Gene Myrick of Castor, LA, Connie Beth Myrick of Ringgold, LA, Tracey Lynn Myrick of Lake Charles, LA, and twins, Wilma Dale Myrick Doxsee and her husband, Martin of Anchorage, AK and Walter Dean Myrick of Castor, LA; well-loved brother of Myrtice Dare of Tyler, TX, James "Jim" Myrick of Pineville, LA, Lawson Myrick of Shreveport, LA, Albert Myrick, Jr., who is currently residing in the nursing home in Arcadia, LA, Bobbie Hataway of Dry Prong, LA, and Laura Ann Blackwelder of Jamestown, LA; 12 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; and a number of other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be Kenny Paul Dyson, Dusty Adam Dyson, Travis B. Dyson, Katrina Leckband, Whitney Doxsee, and Dylan Wayne Myrick. Honorary pallbearers will be Dallas Myrick, Daniel Myrick, Beau Myrick, Trevor Doxsee, Marty Doxsee, Bee Terro, Tyler Leckband, and Matthew Rojeski.

Because Love Forever Remains. The ones we love remains with us, for love itself lives on, and cherished memories do not fade because a loved one's gone. The ones we love can never be more than a thought apart, for as long as there is memory, they'll live on in the heart. May your fond memories bring you strength, peace and comfort. Thinking of you with sympathy at this sad time. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Oh Lord! Where do I start? All those years as a young child spent in your house in Westlake, sitting on your lap and eating your famous biscuits and gravy! And ever since then, you have still been loved even though as I became an adult our time to visit was rare. You have always been my Uncle Tommy and always will be and when I get to Heaven, I will call out, Hello Uncle Tommy. Thank you for the memories and tell everyone I love and miss them.
