Anthony Zambito Obituary

Korean War veteran, FDNY Firefighter, beloved family man, 87 Military Veteran and FDNY Firefighter, Anthony C. Zambito, 87, passed away on April 14, 2023 in Easton, Pennsylvania. Born on John Street in Elizabeth, NJ, "Tony" moved to South Beach, Staten Island in 1940 and settled in Grasmere in 1965. Recently, he relocated to Easton, Pennsylvania to live with his beloved daughter, Gina and her husband Steve Sanfilippo. Tony graduated from St. John's Villa Academy and New Dorp High School, where he played on the school's football team and attended Staten Island Community College on the GI Bill. He proudly served in both the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy during the Korean War, serving in Europe and stateside. Tony worked for the NYC Corrections Department and NYC Department of Sanitation before joining the FDNY. He dedicated his life to the Fire Department's Firehouse 153 in Stapleton, receiving numerous medals for bravery, including rescuing a baby from a fire. He was a member of the United Firefighters' Association, The Emerald Society and the Columbia Association. A longtime member of Holy Rosary Church, Tony also was a member of the Arrochar Friendship Club, both in South Beach. Tony wanted his children to enjoy his love of nature as an avid hunter, so he built a second home in the Poconos in 1975 with his hard earned money. His family had many great times and experiences there including trout fishing and barbeques with friends. After working long and difficult hours, Tony spent his down-time golfing, skiing and cooking. He also had a love for trucks and cars. He enjoyed taking trips throughout the world with his wife and friends and when his children were younger, they vacationed and visited family in Florida and Canada. He was a great chef that spoiled his family and brother firefighters with Italian specialties such as lasagna, sausage and peppers, artichokes and Sunday Sauce. He also enjoyed talk radio and was a staunch Donald Trump supporter and was proud to fly his Trump flag in front of his home. "Dad's life goal was loving and sharing all he had with his family and others," said his family. "He provided us with all the tools and values we needed to survive and thrive. This is his true legacy and should never be forgotten. We don't know of anyone who has sacrificed himself more than Dad. He was truly a brave man and honorable hero." Anthony C. Zambito was the beloved husband of the late Angela (nee Macaluso), who passed away in 2015 and loving father of Gina Sanfilippo, Charles Zambito and the late Anthony Zambito who passed away in 2019. He was the cherished grandfather of Melissa, Matthew, Andrew, Kimberly, Vincent, Anthony Donald, Alex, Paige and step-grandsons Steven and Vinny. Tony was the adored great-grandfather of Olivia, Ella, Jackson, Lydia and Andrew. Tony will always be remembered with his trademark cigar, glass of red wine and the American Flag proudly waving in the wind. A. Azzara Funeral Home, 183 Sand Lane, Staten Island, NY 10305 has been honored with providing the funeral arrangements for Mr. Zambito which include visiting at the funeral home on Wednesday from 3pm to 8pm. Funeral Mass at Holy Rosary Church on Thursday at 10:30am. Interment follows at Resurrection Cemetery in Pleasant Plains.

I am so lucky to have met Tony and gotten to know him and Gina. A brave, strong man with a heart of gold and his love of Trump like me. His love of family and friends was infectious. Thanks for all the memories I will keep always close to my heart. I know he is happy now because he is with his loving wife and son. I will miss you until we meet again friend!

"A soldier/sailor has passed away today." The carrier has turned into the wind preparing for your final launch. You have made your last march down the lonely dusty trail. You are now relieved from your post. A job well done fellow navy veteran. America thanks you for your service to our country in the defense of freedom. We all are grateful for your stepping up to the plate when your country needed you the most. The plank is in place and taps is about to sound ending a successful career as a nation´s defender. Smooth sailing shipmate. A Navy Vietnam Veteran.

I will always remember your Dad, Gina. He was so kind to me when I was a kid running around our store. He sat with me when I was just 7 years old and spoke to me when we were moving away to reassure me that I'd be ok and make new friends. Over 50 years later, I still remember that conversation. Thinking of you and your family
