Beverly F. Heming

Devoted wife, mother, and grandmother Beverly F. Heming, 81, devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, died suddenly Saturday, May 14th surrounded by her family. She was born in Waterbury, Connecticut, where she lived until attending Connecticut College for Women. She graduated with a BA in History and Government in 1962, with aspirations of becoming a lawyer. While attending "Conn College," she met the love of her life William Sr. at the Coast Guard Academy. They married in March of 1963 and celebrated nearly 54 years of marriage before the passing of her beloved Bill. Beverly worked for Traveler's Insurance Co. as their first female underwriter before moving to Hawaii. It was there that she began her true calling as mother, and eventually grandmother. Upon returning to the east coast and settling on Staten Island, she dedicated her life to her family and making a loving, safe home for them. She devoted her life to raising her children and ensuring they were active in everything, playing chauffeur, class mom, and chaperone. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and doted on them. She and Bill also loved traveling and spent several years taking extended cruises around the world. Beverly was a devout and faithful Christian and was an active parishioner of St. John's Lutheran Church. She served as Congregational President, Sunday School Superintendent, Head of Vacation Bible School, and member of the Ladies Guild. Additionally, she was very active in several local organizations, including Seaman's Society, A Very Special Place, and President of the SI Mental Health Women's Guild. Everyone who knew her described her as caring, giving, and loving. Beverly is survived by her loving children Kimberly and William Jr., and adored grandchildren Kayleigh, William III, Ryan, and Hunter Jr. Visitation is Tuesday from 7-9 PM and Wednesday from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM at Harmon Funeral Home (571 Forest Ave, Staten Island, NY 10310). Funeral service is on Thursday at 10:30 AM at St. John's Lutheran Church (216 Jewett Ave, Staten Island, NY 10302). Interment will follow at Moravian Cemetery (2205 Richmond Rd, Staten Island, NY 10306).
