Evelyn M. Turner

Longtime Staten Island Resident, breast cancer survivor Evelyn M. Turner (Lauer) a longtime Staten Islander, passed away on October 27,2022 at the age of 98. Evelyn was born in Hoboken N.J. but her family moved to Oakwood Beach, Staten Island when she was two years old. She attended St. Patrick's high school in Richmond town. Evelyn worked as a secretary in Manhattan, where she met her husband, Walter Turner. They were married 65 years at the time of his passing in 2016. She is survived by her 3 children Robert Turner (Barbara Barry), Richard Turner (Nanette Vassallo), and Irene Ravelo (Raul Ravelo), 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Evelyn was a homemaker, but later in life returned to work as a bookkeeper / payroll clerk. She worked for Richmond Auto Parts, S&F Die-Cutting Company (Port Richmond) and The Richmond town Historical Society, before retiring in 1988. She was a lifelong resident of Oakwood and a parishioner of St Charles Church, where she attended mass regularly until her early 90's. Passing at age 98, she was predeceased by her husband Walter, siblings (Dorothy Schroeder and George Lauer), cousins and friends. She was the last of her generation and for her family, her passing marks the end of an era. Her main focus in life was caring for her family who she loved spending time with. She enjoyed dancing and swimming at the beach in her younger years, and reading and doing crossword puzzles later in life. She was a great cook and baker. Evelyn was a breast cancer survivor and a woman of great courage, strength, determination, and faith in God. She was greatly loved and will be missed immensely. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Hanley Funeral Home. Visitation is Tuesday November 1, 2-4 & 7-9pm. Funeral mass is at St Charles Church on Wednesday November 2, at 10:15am.
