Harlan D. Hyans

1956 - 2022

Retired NYPD; loving family man Harlan D. Hyans of Staten Island, New York died unexpectedly at home on July 11,2022. Harlan was born on August 14,1956 in Manhattan to Marvin and Ruth. They later moved to Gravesend, Brooklyn. As a child Harlan played in many baseball leagues and his love for music was discovered. As a teen Harlan met the love of his life outside of Joe's candy store on Ocean Parkway. Harlan joined the NYPD in July 1986, serving numerous communities throughout Manhattan before retiring in July of 2006. In his retirement Harlan worked various armed security jobs, he truly loved to serve and protect his city. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching Yankee games and playing his guitar and accordion. Harlan is predeceased by his mother, Ruth ( nee Berger), father Marvin and sister Audrey ( Socko). Harlan is survived by his loving and doting wife of 43 years, Theresa (nee Rucco), daughter, JoAnna and her husband Robert and niece Ruth. Harlan leaves behind many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and brothers and sisters of the shield. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, at John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc., 28 Eltingville Blvd, Staten Island, New York. A Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 14, 2022, at John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc. located at 28 Eltingville Blvd Staten Island, New York 10312.
