Fr John was several years ahead of me in the seminary, and many of us 'younger guys' looked up to him for his friendliness, humor, intellect and, above all, the example of his faith. He made a difference in our lives long before he was ordained. "Well done, good and faithdul servant."

FR. Kostek was the kindest , soft spoken spiritual priest I have had the privilege and pleasure to have had counseling with.

Father Kostek was an amazing priest at St Adalbert's. He accepted me as a non catholic mother, raising her child alone, keeping the promise I made to Father Mike when she was baptized. He never looked down on me or excluded me, he cared. The world has surely lost a wonderful priest and heaven has gained an Angel. God Bless

I attended his masses when he was a priest of Our Lady of the Assumption in Rotterdam, New York. To me he exemplified what a priest should be. God blessed all of us who had the opportunity to attend his mass.

We are so sorry for your loss. Father was a wonderful priest and Friend. As Chaplain of Stolzenthaler Knights of Columbus he was loved and respected. I always enjoyed talking to Father John at many of our events. He was always smiling and jovial. We remember our visit to his residence upstate. An entire bus of Knights and their wives had a beautiful day visiting with him and enjoying lunch. He will never be forgotten.

Rest in peace Father John. Many memories. My parents knew you from St Luke's. I got my First communion from you and Monsenior Manning. We met again at World Your Day in Denver Co. The last time we spoke was when he rode the train to NYC. Heaven truly has another angel.

Many years ago at St Luke's Church in Schenectady, Father Kostek regularly said Sunday Mass when I was a lector/cantor. He was always so kind, good-natured and witty. Father John would crack silly jokes in the sacristy before mass to calm the nerves of altar servers and awkward kids like myself. I'll always remember his authenticity and kindness. May he rest in peace.

Grief is an uncontrollable manifestation of your belief that the lost person's existence, limited and flawed as we all may be, was worthwhile, despite the limitations and flaws even of life itself. Otherwise, why would we feel, involuntarily, sorrowful and bereft?
We grieve because someone that we valued is no longer with us.
Grief must be a reflection of love. It is perhaps the ultimate proof of love.
