Linda Allocco Obituary

Native Islander, Had Career with YMCA of Greater NY On Tuesday, November 15th 2022, Linda Louis Allocco, a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away in Austin, Texas following a series of strokes and courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease. Linda was born on September 3,1948 to Elizabeth and Richard Knudsen in Staten Island, New York, where she attended Our Lady Queen of Peace School and St. Peter's Girls High School. She excelled in school and followed her passions to study early childhood education at SUNY Cortland, where she met her loving husband, James (Jim) Allocco. Upon graduating, Linda began her career as an elementary teacher, before accepting an exciting opportunity to teach at the YMCA preschool. Her desire, hard work, and determination to achieve success paid off, as she was quickly promoted to the Early Childhood Director, then Vice President of the Staten Island branch, and finally the Senior Vice President of Operations for the YMCA of Greater New York. In 1971, Jim and Linda married in Staten Island and had two children, Erica Lambert and Jason Allocco. Their children kept them happily occupied with a focus on gymnastics and lacrosse activities! Linda retired in 2011, and enjoyed spending her time reading all types of genres and gardening. Jim and Linda moved to Texas in 2021 to be closer to their grandchildren, and found their new joy cheering on the sidelines at lacrosse games. She is survived by her husband (Jim), her two sisters (Gail Mazer of Clearwater, Florida & Karen Knudsen of Farmington, Connecticut), her children (Erica Lambert & Brad Lambert of Austin, Texas and Jason Allocco & Alissa Giovani of Hoboken, New Jersey), and her two dearly loved grandchildren (Jake Nordstrom and Ryan Lambert). A celebration of life will be held at a later time in New York. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association, an organization Linda felt strongly about.

To Jim and Family,
We were very sorry to hear of Linda's passing. Thinking of Linda and Jim brought back memories of our trip together to Maine in the camper back when we were newlyweds. You are in our thoughts and you have our deepest sympathy.

We were so sad to learn of the passing of Linda. She was a dear friend for many years who displayed her grace and style in everything she did. Linda was a quiet giant in building the Flagship building of the YMCA and enhancing all their programs.
To Jim, Erica and Jason, we send our deepest sympathies.
