Mildred Barone

1929 - 2021

July 22, 1929 - December 23, 2021 Mildred Barone, age 92, passed away peacefully on December 23, 2021, at The Bristal at Wayne. Born in Manhattan, Mildred lived in Brooklyn during her youth, moved with her husband, Anthony Barone, Sr. (d. 1991), to Staten Island in 1963, and subsequently to New Jersey with her partner, John Mella (d. 2006). A proud graduate of Fordham University (1951), she received her MS.Ed. from Wagner College in 1973. She began her career as an elementary grade educator with the New York City Department of Education's P.S. 22 in 1969, retiring in 1993. In her later years she served as a volunteer with the child advocacy center, Ginnie's House, in Newton, NJ. Mildred took great joy in her family and the wide circle of wonderful friends-relations, neighbors, and fellow educators-who were so welcome in her home. One remembers bright peals of laughter that shook her and her friends as they sat at a kitchen table laden with bundt cake and coffee. She is survived by children, Anthony, Victoria, Constance, Frederic, and Frederic's spouse, Donna, and leaves behind grandchildren, Alexandria, Thomas, Steven, Alyssa, Christina, and Frederic, Jr. A funeral Mass will be held for family and friends on Thursday, December 30, 10:30 AM, at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church located at 10 Austin Place, Staten Island, NY, 10304. She will be laid to rest immediately following at Moravian Cemetery. The family invites donations in Mildred's name to the Alzheimer's Association (https://www.alz.org/).
