Walter F. Kitson

1928 - 2022

Loving family man, proud public servant, 94 Walter F. Kitson, 94, passed away peacefully on November 25, 2022. Born in Manhattan on September 20, 1928, Walter spent most of his adult life in Staten Island. Affectionately known as "Kit", he was the devoted and loving husband of Betty (his high school sweetheart) for 75 years. Together they raised their beloved daughter, Leslie, who predeceased them in 2019. Walter is survived by his brother Donald and sister Pamela, and many extended family members. Walter was a proud veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps (1946- 1948)). He served with bravery and distinction in the NYC Police Department for 35 years (1955-1990), mostly in the 123rd precinct, where he achieved the rank of Lieutenant. Highly respected among his police colleagues, he will be remembered for his catchphrase, "Thanks for coming in." Walter's wry wit and bright blue eyes will be sorely missed by his family, friends, and neighbors. He will also be missed by his adored dog, Charlie. Visitation Thursday 3-6 p.m. at the Hanley Funeral Home, 60 New Dorp Lane, Staten Island. Mass of Christian Burial on Friday 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church. Interment to follow at Moravian Cemetery.
