Edward Schroeder Obituary

SIDNEY - Edward Frederick Schroeder died August 25th, 2025, of natural causes at the Dorothy Love Retirement Community in Sidney, Ohio at the age of 85. He was born March 25, 1940, to Linus Schroeder of McCartyville, and Katherine (Lonnemann) Schroeder of Selm, Germany. Edward had one older brother, Alfred.

Edward attended elementary school at McCartyville. His family attended Sacred Heart Church in McCartyville. In March 1953 Ed was one of the servers for the very first mass in the new church at McCartyville. Ed was active in FFA and was a 1958 graduate of Anna High School.

Edward joined the Minster Machine Company in 1962. Ed worked primarily on the main assembly floor, and then the electrical panel shop before retiring in 2002 after 39.5 years at Minster Machine. During retirement, he cared for several family members and worked part-time at Walmart in Sidney.

Ed joined The McCartyville Knights of Columbus Council 5239 in 1967. As a member of the Knights of Columbus for over 50 years, Ed served as Deputy Grand Knight, Grand Knight, Recording Secretary, Financial Secretary, and Trustee. He was also a lector at Sacred Heart Church.

Edward married Martha Grieshop, daughter of Frank and Rose Grieshop of Osgood on October 20th, 1972. Together they had five children. Martha, Ed's wife for 46 years, passed in March of 2019. Their son Daniel died in July of 2003 at the age of 28.

Ed is survived by his brother Alfred and his wife Judy of Lake Ridge, Virginia, and their three children Elizabeth, Mark, and Mary and their associated grandchildren.

Surviving children of Ed and Martha include David and his wife Bridget of Southgate Michigan, Maria and husband Mike Tinstman of Malden, Massachusetts, Theresa and husband Scott Meiring of Sidney, and John of McCartyville. Grandchildren include Jeffrey Meiring, Patrick Meiring, Katrina Meiring, Adam Schroeder, Julia Schroeder, and Nora Tinstman. Edward has one great-grandchild, Zoey Keen.

Ed was preceded in death by ten cousins of the Schroeder, Flaute, and Albers families. He is survived by two cousins, Urban Schroeder of Fort Loramie, and Virgil "Butch" Schroeder of Troy, Ohio. He is survived by numerous relatives on his wife's side, the Frank and Rose Grieshop family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, August 30, 2025, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, McCartyville, Ohio with burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may call at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster, on Friday, August 29, 2025, from 2 to 7 PM and on Saturday, August 30 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Church.

In lieu of flowers monetary gifts may be made out to "The Anna District Historical Society", "Fort Loramie Historical Association" or to "Minster Historical Society". Condolences may be left at www.hogenkampfh.com.
