LOGAN — Janet S. Davis, 80, passed away Thursday, Feb. 26, 2015, at the Carlin House in Logan with her husband at her bedside.
She was born Sept. 22, 1934, in Lima, daughter of the late Herbert and Frieda Soelmann. Janet was a dedicated and loving daughter, wife and mother.
A 1952 graduate of Anna High School, she received the Bachelor of Science Degree in home economics education from the Ohio State University in 1956 and earned the Master of Education in home economics education in 1980 from Miami University of Ohio. She also did graduate work at the University of Georgia.
Janet was a retired school teacher, having taught in Vinton County, Hamilton County and Butler County, Ohio. She was also the former county extension agent, home economics, in Miami County, Meigs County and Prince Georges County, Maryland. She volunteered several years as 4-H adviser in Vinton and Hamilton counties.
Janet and her husband, Bob, lived in Tacoma Park, Maryland; McArthur, Ohio; and Cincinnati before returning to Vinton County to build and operate Country Pleasures Bed & Breakfast. She enjoyed being an innkeeper until her ill health forced them to close the B&B.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Bob Davis; daughter, Teresa (Todd) Bodey, of South Vienna; son, Mark (Rhonda) Davis; and granddaughter, Allison, of Columbus, Georgia. Also surviving are her sisters-in-law, Marjory Davis, of Logan, Marilyn (Dr. Robert) Jepsen, of Canal Winchester, and Mary Davis, of Lancaster; and brother-in-law Dr. James (Jan) Davis, of Brookville. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers-in-law Don Davis and Clark Davis.
Janet was a member of the Hocking Hills United Methodist Church, past president, Alpha Gamma Delta, Alpha Lambda Chapter, life member of the Ohio State University, the Ohio State University Alumni Association; former member of the Ohio Bed & Breakfast Association, and the Hocking Hills Tourism Association.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 3, 2015, at 11 a.m., at Heinlein-Brown Funeral Home in Logan with the Rev. Dr. Randy Hardman officiating. Burial will be in New Fairview Memorial Gardens, Rockbridge.
Visitation will be observed Monday, March 2, 2015, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Janet's family sincerely thanks the entire staff at Carlin House and FairHoPe Hospice for the tender, loving care provided for Janet.
