Constance Toomey Obituary

Constance Toomey
July 11, 1937 – September 14, 2025
Santa Clarita - Constance Elaine "Connie" Toomey passed peacefully in her sleep on September 14, 2025. She was 88 years old.
Connie was born on July 11, 1937, and grew up on the west side of Los Angeles. She spent her summers on Balboa Island in Newport Beach, where she loved sailing her 12-foot Snowbird and racing in the annual Flight of the Snowbirds regatta as part of the Balboa Island Yacht Club. She attended Bishop Conaty High School, where she served as class president and made lifelong friends.
She met the love of her life, Dan Toomey, at UCLA during the spring Mardi Gras festival, and the two were married on June 21, 1958. Together, they raised two children, Dan Jr. and Shannon. In 1969, the family moved to Santa Clarita, where Connie and Dan worked tirelessly to make the community a better place, especially for children. They co-founded the Val Por Swim League, Canyons Aquatic Club, and the SCVAA Warriors youth track program. Connie was also an active member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church.
Her bright optimism and passion for service carried into her professional life. She worked as Director of Volunteers at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital and later served as Director of Community Services at Glendale Memorial Hospital. There, she helped create Glendale Healthy Kids, a program providing free healthcare to underprivileged schoolchildren, an initiative that continues to benefit countless families.
Proud of her Irish heritage, Connie held dual citizenship and cherished her many summers in Ireland with family. She also traveled extensively throughout Europe and the United States, visiting friends as far away as Norway and Sweden. She was also a lifelong supporter of UCLA sports. Above all, she was devoted to her family. She was a loving mother, an adoring grandmother, and the biggest fan of her grandchildren, Danny, Mary, Colleen, and Matthew. Weekends often found her on the sidelines of a football game, soccer match, or track meet, cheering them on with boundless pride.
Connie touched many lives with her generous spirit, humor, loyalty, and unwavering kindness. She always had time for others, whether through friendship, service, or simple encouragement. She opened her home and her heart to those in need; there was always more room at her table.
She is survived by her son, Dan Jr., and her beloved grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dan, and daughter, Shannon.
A Memorial Mass will be held at Mission San Fernando Rey de España at 9:00 AM on Wednesday, October 1, 2025. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Our Lady of Perpetual Help New Church Fund: https://www.osvhub.com/ourladyperpetualhelpca/giving/funds/our-new-church-fund
Connie's life was one of joy, faith, and love, and her memory will forever inspire those who knew her.

Connie was such a bright light in everything she did. So grateful that I met her through being part of the Glendale Healthy Kids Board.
