Terrence Toji Obituary

Terrence Toji
October 23, 1948 - September 22, 2023
Valencia - Terrence Tsugio Toji passed away on September 22, 2023, following a brief illness. He spent his final weeks doing what he cherished most: traveling, attending his great-grandchildren's sporting events, and spending time with family. Terry, also known to his family and community as Grandpa Terry or GPT, will be remembered for his kind-hearted nature and willingness to lend a helping hand.
Terry was born in Los Angeles, California to Kay and Tsugio Toji on October 23, 1948. He had fond childhood memories of vacationing in Hawaii, camping, playing baseball, swimming, and working in his dad's garage. After graduating from Gardena High School, Terry joined the Army Reserve and later entered the workforce at the Department of Social Services. His second career was as a technical consultant for the Pacific Bell Telephone Company. This eventually led to other telephone programming positions for companies like AT&T, Lucent Technologies, Avaya Communications, and lastly, the Los Angeles Unified School District.
Known for his friendly demeanor, generosity, and knowledge on all things automotive, Terry enjoyed gardening, traveling, and history. Above all else, he found joy in spending time with family and friends. With his camera by his side, you could always find him at his grandchildren's, and in his later years, great-grandchildren's various sporting events.
Terry is survived by his younger brother: Randy; nephews: Jason and Justin; daughter: Ava; grandchildren: Brittany, Casey, Aaron, Dylan, and Emily; and great grandchildren Billy, Cora, Audrey, and Wesley.
A memorial will be held on October 21, 2023 at the Westridge Horizon Clubhouse (26960 Sycamore Meadow Dr., Stevenson Ranch, CA 91381) at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Cancer Society, or simply have a beer in his honor.

Terry and I worked together at Pacific Telephone, Lucent Technologies and Avaya. Terry was always so kind and helpful to everyone. His work was always excellent, in spite of the demands and challenges that sometimes required him to reprogram things he already completed. He truly made my job easier as a Sales Professional.
I remember the pride and love in his face anytime he would speak about his family.
He was a very nice, caring human being and I am glad to have worked with him for so many years thru our "Telcom Journey".
You will be missed my friend.
RIP

I first met Terry in YMCA Camp. I think he was still in elementary school. Our friendship continued through the Y and Centenary Methodist Church in LA. We always hung out together at Harbor College, and I recall many times hanging out in the den at his home, and the welcoming feeling I always recieved from his mother. We lost contact after I moved to asia, but after finding him on Facebook and having my first video chat with him after many years a part, everything felt like nothing had separated us. I enjoyed his daily posts of his activities with his grand kids, travels, duties around the house.
I have just seen the post of his passing, and I am shocked and sadden. I will never forget him. He was a very good man.

Met Teri (Mr T.)on the job, and he was always willing to lend a helping hand and support.
We finally became closer friends through mutual projects and started hanging out after work partying, and enjoying life with the other comrades. Too many special memories to mention we were sushi buddies and enjoyed a good drink after work once in a while.
Attended a Santana concert together.
Even when retired, we would meet and experience new sushi places once in awhile. Shocked about hearing the sad news. May you rest in peace, my brother thanks for the memories and friendship

I am so sorry for Terry's family's loss. He loved his family so much. Terry and I worked together for 15 years, and I was always happy when he was working a job, because I knew it would be done right. He was a person that loved life and found pleasure and beauty in the smallest things . I looked forward to seeing what he was posting every day, whether being with his beautiful great-grandchildren, washing his truck, telling me what plane is flying overhead, or heading to a car or air show. I have not felt this sadness, since my own mother passed away. Terry's family, please stay strong, and know that you had one of the good ones. Rest In Peace, Toji, I already miss interacting with you every day.

Terry was a great mentor when we worked together at LAUSD. We kept in touch even after. My fondest memory has always been the way he would greet me every morning. "Danny boy, it´s alway so good to see you" he will truly be missed

His license plate said "1TSO"! One day he finally told me it meant "1 Travel Sized Oriental"...It always made me laugh, regardless of whether it was true! Much love!
