Carol Beacom Obituary

Carol Beacom

July 1, 1938 - December 14, 2024

Carol Ann Beacom, 86, of Sioux City, passed away Saturday, December 14, 2024. A memorial mass will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 18, 2025, at Nativity Catholic Church. Visitation will be Friday, January 17, 2025, from 5 to 7 p.m., with a rosary at 4:30 p.m., and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Private family burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.

Carol was born the daughter of Cliff and Jean (Sullivan) Johnson on July 1, 1938, in Sioux City, Iowa. She graduated from Heelan High School and Briar Cliff University. Carol married Jerry Beacom on November 21, 1961, and to this union six children were born.

Carol taught school at Epiphany Grade School before becoming a homemaker to raise her children. She was very involved in their lives. She drove them to countless practices, swim meets, and softball games. She later became manager of Younker's Fine Jewelry at the Southern Hills Mall.

She enjoyed her winters in Florida with her lifelong friends and many family visitors. Her favorite past time was sitting on her deck drinking coffee and watching for dolphins. She was an avid walker and could often be seen traversing the hills of Morningside and lived for her long walks on the beach in Florida. She loved the water aerobics classes in her pool in Florida with the younger ladies which brought much laughter to all. She marveled at all of God's creations but never saw a seashell that she didn't have time to investigate. She has quite an extensive shell collection.

Carol loved to travel. She took several cruises to the Mediterranean and Caribbean. She loved going anywhere with sunshine, water, flowers, and fresh air.

She adored all babies and children and loved her volunteer work for All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg. She shared a wonderful bond with her grandchildren. All the time she spent with them really brightened her life.

She served as past president for the school board, altar society, and J.C. Elites of South Sioux City.

Carol is survived by her children, Jeanne (Kent) Hennings of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Jackie Reller of South Sioux City, Neb., Dr. John (Jesse) Beacom of Chicago, Ill., Carrie (Jim) Cunningham of Sioux City, Iowa, Dr. Betsy LeRoux of West Des Moines, Iowa, and Katie (Jon) LaFleur of Dakota Dunes, S.D.; grandchildren, Ryan Reller, Weston (Tessa) Reller, Jon (Sarah) Hennings, Kaitlyn (Colby) Creger, Ally Cunningham, Erin Cunningham, Abbie LaFleur, Emma LaFleur, Lauren LaFleur, and Madelyn LaFleur; great-grandchildren, Julia, Bay and Banks Reller, Jameson, Rose, and Theodore Hennings, and Jaxson Creger; siblings, Roni Connors and Denny Johnson.

She was preceded in death by her parents and grandson, Jonathan LaFleur.

The family would like to thank St. Croix Hospice, especially nurses, Tabitha and Whitney, for their wonderful care of Carol.

My prayers are with you incredible family! I was so blessed to grow up with Carol and all of you. I have many beautiful memories of your mother. She always took good care of me when I was at the Beacom household for overnights or on trips with the family. I was blessed as an adult as well to go on boat rides, walks, water aerobics and shelling with her when visiting mom in Florida (not to mention she took care of all my jewelry needs).

She was an amazing mother and friend! I will miss that contagious laugh and humor.
