Darrell P. Lux (Soap), 91, of Sioux City and formerly of Salix passed away on Thursday, Feb. 17, 2022 at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Salix. A public visitation will be held at 1 p.m. at the church one hour prior to service. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sergeant Bluff.
Darrell was born on Oct. 6, 1930 in rural Newcastle, Neb., to Andrew and Alta (Gallaher) Lux. He married Carole Johnson on Oct. 24, 1959 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Salix. Born to this union were six children: Ronald, Steven, Robert, Debra, Rodney, and Theresa. They raised their family in Salix.
Darrell was a handyman. He liked to build, fix, or restore just about anything. He enjoyed fixing up old pickups and lawn mowers. He owned many rental homes over the years. He took pride in the many tools that he owned. Darrell had a great work ethic, and it was important to him that he taught his children to as well. Darrell had the gift of gab and would talk to anyone. He loved social gatherings, especially the opportunities to visit with family and friends and to tell stories. He enjoyed selling some of his handywork at craft fairs around the area. He loved to travel, making fond memories on camping trips with his family. His Catholic faith was very important to him.
He is survived by his children, Ron (Patricia) Lux of Sloan, Iowa, Steve Lux of South Sioux City, Bob (Carrie) Lux of Ponca, Neb., Debbie (Shawn) Jensen of Hubbard, Neb., and Theresa (Cory) Nordstrom of Elkhorn, Neb.; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sister, Mary (Marlyn) Stewart of Hubbard; sister-in-law, Dorothy Lux of Dakota City; and many nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Carole; son, Rodney; two brothers, Lawrence and Edmund Lux; sister, Clara Winn; parents-in-law, Earl and Thelma Johnson; three sisters-in-law, Joann Lux, Margie Lux, and Elaine Johnson; three brothers-in-law, Chris Koch, Jerome Winn, and Lyle Johnson; one grandchild, Joshua Harrington Lux; and one great-grandchild, Alyssa Lux.
