Dr. Donald F. Lamb

Moorhead, Iowa

Dr. Donald F. Lamb, of Moorhead passed away on Tuesday, July 20, 2021, at English Valley Care Center in North English, Iowa.

Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday at the Moorhead Christian Church in Moorhead with Dwight Masters officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, Iowa. Condolences may be left online for the family at www.rushfamilycareservice.com

Don was born to Arthur T. and Rowena (Adams) Lamb on Oct. 17, 1934, (his mother's 30th birthday) in Moorhead. He attended eight different country schools and then high school at Moorhead, graduating in 1953.

His college years were at Colorado College, Kansas State University, and Iowa State University where he received the DVM degree in 1959. He married Patricia Eno that same year. He practiced as a large animal veterinarian in rural Baxter, Iowa, for seven years and then rural Sioux City until his retirement to the farm in 1989. He farmed with Leland Lantz and his son Loren for nearly 50 years.

Don was an avid outdoorsman, conservationist, people person, and man of deep faith. He made a commitment to Christ as a teen and followed with a life of faithful worship, and church involvement. He taught Sunday school wherever he attended for over 40 years and was also active in Gideons. His family was also of great importance to him. He made up parables to teach his own children and then retold them to the grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Pat; daughter, Diane (Darrel) Hershberger; son, Donald T. (Colby) Lamb; daughter, Karen (David) Meyerholz; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Rowena (Adams) Lamb; and sister, Roma Vaverka.

Condolences to the family of Dr. Lamb

As a boy on the farm just outside Sioux City, I remember when Dr. Lamb would visit. While my dad had a grasp of most of the veterinary needs of the livestock & poultry, there were those occasions when Dr. Lamb had to be called. When that happened, we knew it was serious!

He was always patient & friendly...and had time for a boy with a lot of questions.

Watching him work convinced me that I wanted to become a veterinarian. That never happened (I became a Civil Engineer), but the lessons took hold that I learned from him about working hard academically.

I am grateful for what he taught me.
