July 13, 1937 - May 24, 2025

Ernest Martin "Ernie" Savary, 87, lifelong resident of Sioux City, Iowa, passed from this life on Saturday, May 24, 2025. A private memorial service will be held at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Sioux City. Entombment will follow. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Funeral Homes. Memorials may be directed to the NRA.

Ernie was born July 13, 1937, in Sioux City to Sal and Louise Savary. After graduating from East High School in 1955, Ernie attended the University of South Dakota for one year and was a member of the USD's basketball team.

Ernie married JoAnn Richa on June 22, 1957, and they would have two children. Ernie was an avid hunter and fisherman, and a proud lifetime member of the NRA.

Ernie began his structural steel detailing career in 1956 at Tower Construction. In 1957, he moved to Missouri Vally Stell and to Schroder Engineering in 1970. In 1971, he formed his own business, Sioux Structural Details and worked with various fabricators until his retirement.

Survivors include is wife, JoAnn; daughter, Kelly (Randy) Vogel of Hastings, Mich.; daughter-in-law, Kristine Savary of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa; five grandchildren, Ryan (Erika) Vogel, Kayla (Stefan) Jenssen, Keegan (Karlee) Savary, Kaitlin Savary, and Korbyn Savary; three great-grandchildren, Elayna Vogel, Sander and Hanna Jo Jenssen.

Ernie was preceded in death by his son, Todd; his parents; and his brothers, Gary and Steve.
