Helen was born on December 25, 1929, the daughter of Julius and Anna (Nilles) Sherlock. She was raised on a farm south of Oyens, Iowa. She graduated valedictorian from St. Mary's High School in Remsen in 1947.

On January 30, 1951, she married Mark John Rolling at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Oyens, Iowa. The couple farmed in rural Le Mars for 52 years. After her family was raised she started working at Bomgaars and Family Pharmacy in Le Mars.

Helen was a member of St. Joseph Neptune Catholic Church of rural Hinton, and later St. Michael Catholic Church of Kingsley. She was a member of the alter society, and a guild member. She spent much time volunteering with anyone that needed help from hospice to homebound people.

In 2002, Mark and Helen retired from the farm and moved to Kingsley. Helen enjoyed spending time with children and grandchildren as well as playing cards and dominoes. She loved her monthly "sisters day." Helen was kind and generous and will be missed greatly.
