Janet Lynn Saunders-Kern

Sioux City

Janet Lynn Saunders-Kern, 76, of Sioux City, passed away on Thursday, May 20, 2021, at a local hospital.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Jackson, Neb., with the Rev. Andrew Sohm as Celebrant. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery at Sioux City, Iowa. Visitation with the family present will begin 10:30 a.m. Tuesday prior to the Mass. Online condolences may be offered at www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Janet was born on Aug. 15, 1944, in Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, to Eugene and Luella (Pedersen) Saunders. She received her education in the South Sioux City Public Schools, graduating with the Class of 1962.

She resided in Jackson, Neb. until her marriage to Terry Kern on June 28, 1980, when the couple made Sioux City their home. Janet worked at Younkers in the Notions Department, and in the Camera Department for over 10 years. When she left Younkers, she became a homemaker, raising her son, Johnathan. She was a proud former member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Jackson.

Janet is survived by her husband, Terry of Sioux City; son, Johnathan Saunders Kern; two granddaughters, Genevieve and Daphne Kern; brother, Elliotte (Tina) Saunders of Jackson, Neb.; and sister, Karen (Rick) Oster of Beloit, Wis.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Kirk Saunders; and sister, Shirley
