Marlis was born December 27, 1944, in Rockford, Ill., the daughter of Emerald and Allena (Todd) Johnson. She was raised and educated in Marcus, Iowa, attending Marcus Public School. It was there she met her future husband, Larry Rodesch, who had recently enrolled from Remsen.
On December 29, 1962, she married Larry at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen. The couple made their home on a farm right outside of Remsen. Over the years, Marlis worked at Happy Siesta Health Care Center, Aalf's Manufacturing, Remsen Apparel, Advanced Brands, and also provided in-home daycare. No matter the job, Marlis was always a hard worker.
Marlis was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. She loved flowers and gardening, always tending to her garden, even though health challenges. Bird feeders were also nearby, and she enjoyed watching the birds from her kitchen window.
In her younger years, Marlis loved spending time outdoors with Larry, especially fishing and snowmobiling. She had a special talent for sewing, crochet, and embroidery, sharing baby blankets, doll clothes, and kitchen tea towels with those she loved. Cookies, pies, caramel corn, and other baked goodies were another way she showed her love. Dining out and enjoying a Diet Coke over ice was one of her simple pleasures.
Above all, Marlis cherished time spent with her family - those moments brought her the greatest joy.
Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Larry of Remsen; three daughters, Pam Bortscheller of Broken Arrow, Okla., Jeanne (Jeff) Beidler of Bouton, IA, and Dee Dee (Steve) Ruba of Remsen, Iowa; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; her brother, John (Judie) Johnson of Chariton, Iowa; and sisters-in-law, Gail Buck and Myrna Hawkins of Lake Havesau City, Ariz., and Pat Johnson of Dothan, Ala.
She was preceded in death by her parents; in-laws, Paul and Sally Rodesch; brothers, Ron Johnson and Roger Johnson; and a sister, Patty Ricker.
