DANBURY - Mary Ann Ortner, age 95, of Danbury, IA, passed away on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at the Willow Dale Wellness Village of Battle Creek, IA.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 3, 2023, at the St. Mary's Catholic Church of Danbury, IA. Father William McCarthy will officiate. Committal services will follow in the Danbury Catholic Cemetery of Danbury, IA.
A Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., with a Vigil Service at 7:30 p.m. with Rosary to follow, on Thursday, November 2, 2023, at the St. Mary's Catholic Church of Danbury, IA.

Mary Ann Ortner the daughter of Henry Sr. and Ida (Uhl) Hamman, was born on November 24, 1927, on the farm near Mapleton, IA. Mary Ann received her education from the St. Mary's Catholic School in Mapleton, IA.
On her twentieth birthday, November 24, 1947, Mary Ann married her true love Arnold John Ortner at the St. Mary's Catholic Church of Mapleton, IA. The couple shared nearly 59 years together before Arnolds passing on August 3, 2006.
Blessed with three children: Dedee, Den and Bill, Mary Ann was a devoted mother, wife and homemaker. She enjoyed raising her family, tending to her garden and home while providing delicious home cooked meals. An avid baker, Mary Ann is well known for her delectable homemade pies and chocolate angel food cake.
In 1980, Mary Ann and Arnold moved to the town of Danbury, IA, where she took pleasure in tending to her house and lawn. A devoted Catholic and faithful member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church, Mary Ann was active in Rosary Society. The most important things in Mary Ann's life were her faith and her family which she cherished dearly.
Mary Ann called Willow Dale Wellness Village home for the last nine years, where she received excellent care and made many friends.
Left to treasure her memory are her children Dedee (Gary) Steemken of Sioux City, IA, Den (Trude) Ortner of Danbury, IA and Bill (Sandy) Ortner of Danbury, IA; grandchildren: Brent (Julie) Steemken of Ankeny, IA, Missy (David) Roberts of Kansas City, KS, Andy (Michelle) Ortner of Danbury, IA, Rich (Tonya) Ortner of Carroll, IA, Kathy (Scott) Harvey of Bronson, IA, Steve (Jillian) Ortner of Danbury, IA, Carrie (Steven) Dibelka of Omaha, NE, and Lisa (Dave) Mapes of Urbandale, IA; great-grandchildren: Zach, Ben and Shania Steemken; Aria Roberts; Danielle, Joseph, Erica and Brandon Ortner; Lillie, John, and Chris Ortner; Michael, Tucker, Elliot and Annaleigh Harvey; Wesley and Posey Ortner; Mason, Connor and Frankie Dibelka; and Olivia and Jackson Mapes; sisters-in-law, Shirley Henjes and Betty Ramn both of Sioux City, IA; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents Henry Sr. and Ida Hamman; love of her life husband Arnold "Arnie" Ortner; siblings: Leona Kraft, Evelyn Morgan, Helen Daly, John Hamman, Laura Ortner, Henry Hamman and Uhl Hamman.
