Melvin A. "Mel" Wieseler

December 6, 1943 - October 13, 2025

Melvin A. "Mel" Wieseler died on Monday, October 13, 2025, at local hospital in Sioux City, Iowa.

A visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm Friday, October 17, 2025, at Christy-Smith Funeral Homes, Morningside Chapel, 1801 Morningside Ave., with a Rosary followed by a Prayer Service starting at 6:30 pm. A Funeral Mass will be 10:30 am Saturday, October 18, 2022, at Mater Dei Parish-Church of the Nativity, 4242 Natalia Way, with burial to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mel was born on December 6, 1943, in Wynot, NE, to Tony and Laura (Kathol) Wieseler. He graduated high school from Sacred Heart Catholic School in Emerson, NE in 1963. After graduating, Mel enlisted in the Army and spent six years serving his country honorably.

On November 12, 1966, Mel was united in marriage with Kathelene "Kathy" Hanna in Sioux City, IA Mel worked as the meat market manager at Safeway, then went to work for The Church of the Nativity in Sioux City, where he worked maintenance for almost 40 years. Mel and the entire family also ran a cleaning service that contracted with the Westrock company for almost 40 years. He retired in 2008. Kathelene died in 2022.

In 2023, Mel was united in marriage with Mary (McCarville) Hauswirth in Sioux City, IA.

Mel was a proud member of The Church of the Nativity in Sioux City, IA for many years. He was an active part of the Nativity Men's Club and helped start the church's annual fish fry. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the VFW in Sergeant Bluff, IA.

In his free time, Mel enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, and spending time with his family. He was known for his strong work ethic and love of life. Mel was always smiling and loved telling corny jokes.

Mel is survived by his wife, Mary Hauswirth of Sioux City; three children, Brian (Wendy) of Sioux City, IA, Cheraine (Daniel) Bromander of Sioux City, IA, Doug of Sioux City, IA; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Ruth (Gene) Larson of Minnesota, Ramona (Kenny Baudette) Hilsinger of Walt Hill, NE; sisters-in-law, Linda Wieseler of Sioux City, Marlene Wieseler of Sioux City, and Pam Wieseler; brothers-in-law, Don (Gina) Hanna of Sioux City, Ron Hanna of La Quinta, CA; step-daughters, Lisa Hauswirth of Sioux City, Deb (Kelly) Conley of Sioux City; daughter-in-law, Beth Wieseler; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Kathelene; and his siblings, Gilbert, Ralph, Joan, Geraldine, Donald, Duane, Vernan, Roger, Roman, Loretta, Annette and Tony.
