Michael W. 'Mike' McCormick
Sioux City
Michael W. "Mike" McCormick, 69, of Sioux City, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, June 22, 2021.
A Celebration of Life will be 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 28, at Country Celebrations, 5606 Hamilton Blvd. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service time. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Mike was born in Des Moines, Iowa, to Lawrence and Minnie (Grazis) McCormick on Nov. 1, 1951. He grew up in Sioux City and attended Catholic schools, graduating from Heelan High School in 1970.
Upon graduation, Mike worked for the FBI in Washington, D.C. for a few years. He returned home and served on the Sioux City Police Department from 1974 until his retirement as a Sergeant in 2013. Officers admired and respected Mike and knew him as one of the good guys.
He was also employed by the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Centeretty Strong Encounter Center from 2001 until his retirement as Executive Director in June of this year. Mike took great pride in his maintenance, exhibits and handcrafted wood pieces at the LCIC Center, leaving his legacy in every nook and cranny of the buildings, on the grounds and within the hearts of staff, presenters and members.
Mike was a talented woodworker and never stopped creating, building and remodeling. As a perfectionist, projects sometimes took him a long time and lots of pondering, but everything he created was a piece of art. Mike loved his family dearly and would do anything for us. He was also a loyal friend, always willing to lend a hand.
Mike is survived by his wife of 21 years, Eileen, children, Kevin (Jessie), Chris (Rayna), Abby and Jenny; and grandchildren, Khloe, Wrenn, Jetta and Tristan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister Jeanette; and son, Brian.

I was a classmate of Mike's at Blessed Sacrament and Heelan. He would often stop at our old house on 27th and Nebraska on the way to School and we'd walk there together. He was a good friend and a real Class act. Like his picture; he always had a smile. He'll be missed. My condolences to his Family.
