Phyllis Lucas Obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Phyllis Frances Lucas, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. She passed away peacefully at the age of 81,on Friday, November 7, 2025 in Pleasant Plain, Ohio, at the home of her daughter, Tracy Geary.
Born on March 9, 1944 in Sioux City, Iowa, Phyllis F. Griesel was the daughter of Harry and Loretta (Leffelman) Griesel. Phyllis grew up in Sioux City where she graduated from St. Boniface Catholic School and Bishop Heelan High School. She also attended MBT Business College in Sioux City.
Phyllis was a dedicated worker with her early years spent as a waitress in various establishments, including Bishop's Cafeteria, Little Pigs Restaurant and the 11th Street Lunch, her parents' restaurant. Later she was hired by the Sioux City Community Schools as a custodian, a job she held for several years.
In 1978, her only child, Tracy, was born in Sioux City.
Throughout her life, Phyllis was known for her strong and independent nature which served her well as she experienced life throughout the United States making her home in Iowa, Indiana, and Ohio.
Phyllis married her loving husband, Charles "Chuck" Lucas, on June 19, 1998, and they made their home in Indianapolis, Indiana. In 2022 Phyllis and her husband moved into her daughter and son-in-law's home in Pleasant Plain, Ohio to be closer to her family.
Phyllis found joy in gardening, canning, cooking, needlework, and spending time with her daughter, son-in-law, and her grandchildren on their homestead.
Phyllis is survived by her husband, Charles Lucas, her daughter, Tracy (David) Geary, and grandchildren Selena, Sebastian, Ella, and Wayman Geary. Phyllis is also survived by her sister Harriet, her brother Charles (Jean) Griesel, her sister Jean (George) Smith, and her brother Edward (Jane) Griesel. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. They will forever remember her spirit, determination, and the many ways she enriched their lives.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, brother James Griesel, brother-in-law Wayne Fugier, and infant nephew, John Griesel.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Sioux City, Iowa.
