Richard L. Johnson, 77, passed away Thursday, Oct. 28, 2021, after an unexpected illness - not Covid-19.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City, 4125 Orleans Ave. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time.
Richard L. Johnson, the son of Ernest and Mellie Johnson, was born Feb. 20, 1944, in Sioux City. He graduated from Leeds High School in 1962. Richard worked as a sheet metal worker for 35 years and was a member of Sheet Metal Union 3, which later merged into 105, for 54 years. Richard served as president for Pheasant Acres.
Richard loved to spend time with his family, whether it be beating or cheating in cards, fishing, gambling, or just getting together. He enjoyed spending time with his 20 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Richard was married to Bernita from 1963 until Bernita gained her angel wings on April 4, 1971. Then Richard was married to Rita in 1971 until Rita gained her wings on April 6, 2009.
Richard is survived by his children, Paula(Mike) Schreck, Pat (Felipa) Johnson, Rich(Lori) Johnson, Tari Waldner, Julie (Tom) Fergen, Angel (Kiko) Hernandez, and April Krieger; oldest brother Donald Johnson; sister Janice Evans; 20 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ernest and Mellie Johnson; sisters Beverly Boyd and Delores Bauerly; brother Carl Johnson; and grandson Skylar Johnson.
