I was due with my first child on March 14th, 1978. I had an appointment set for the morning of March 15 "just in case" and I saw Dr. Powell. I was not in labor but he told me to go to the hospital at about 4:00 and that I would have the baby that night. I went home and waited for 4:00. Still not in labor, we took our time and got to St. Lukes at about 5:30. They asked me if my water broke, I said no; they asked me if I was in labor, I said no; they asked me why I was there and I said because Dr. Powell said I'm having the baby tonight and they laughed. I finally went into labor, they called Dr. Powell and he came to St. Lukes and delivered our son at 7:56 pm. Only a brilliant doctor would be so sure and confident enough to give me the instructions that he did and be spot on.

I know Dr Powell as a very well loved Locum-ER doctor for the Hawarden Hospital & Clinic. I was the scheduler and he was always available and willing to help us out when I was unable to find Docs to help cover. He also worked our clinic hours when needed and the staff and patients were so very grateful to have such a comforting and concerning provider. He was truly missed when he decided to end his work.
May His Memory be ETERNAL !!!

My deepest sympathy to Phyll and her family. My husband I had the pleasure of sharing our love of rock hounding with Bob. He always was a pleasure to be with on our rock hounding adventures or the Gem and Mineral shows.
