Sue Ann Howard (Nichols), beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 17, 2024, in Lenexa, Kansas, at the age of 78.
Born on June 5, 1946, to Jack and Gladys (Olson) Nichols, Sue grew up in a close-knit family as the youngest of three siblings, alongside her brother Jack Nichols and sister Kay Siltman.
Sue's love story with Gary Howard began in kindergarten, blossoming into a lifelong partnership. They married on October 5, 1968, and shared more than five decades of love, laughter, and adventures. Together, they raised a family and cherished time spent boating on the Missouri River and the Yankton Reservoir. In 2014, Sue and Gary moved to Eufaula, Oklahoma, to embrace the tranquility of lake life.
Sue trained as a beautician, practicing professionally and personally for many years, and later was a longtime employee of Mercy Health, where her kindness and dedication left a lasting impact.
Despite the challenges of scleroderma in her later years, Sue showed remarkable strength and resilience. She also cared for Gary during his own health struggles. In 2021, she relocated to Lenexa, Kansas, to be closer to family.
Sue is survived by her children, Kristin Johnson (Matt) and Trent Howard (Lisa), and her beloved grandchildren: Charlie and Beau Johnson, and Clark and Colby Howard. She will be remembered for her enduring love, selflessness, and joy for life.
A celebration of Gary and Sue's life will be held at the Moville Community Center on December 27, 2024 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations in her memory to the Scleroderma Research Foundation at srfcure.org.
