Afaf Samara
SPRINGFIELD, IL - Afaf Samara, 85, died at 9:45 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 3, 2014, at her home.
She was born June 21, 1928, in Jerusalem to Hassan and Kuther Kalibo. She married Nimer Aref Samara in June of 1947; he preceded her in death on Oct. 8, 2004.
Her parents and one son, Eyad Samara, also preceded her in death.
She is survived by one daughter, Jihad (Issam) Samara of Orland Park, Ill.; four sons: Jawad (Audry) Samara of Munster, Ind., Ziyad (Souad) Samara of Springfield, Majdi (Najwa) Samara of Springfield and Imad (Kariman) Samara of Homer Glen, Ill.; 15 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sisters, Haife Kalibo and Enyha Kalibo both of Jerusalem, Palestine; one brother, Aref (Ablah) Kalibo of Jerusalem, Palestine; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mrs. Samara was a homemaker and was a teacher when she was younger.
Visitation: 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, at Staab Funeral Home.
Prayer Service: 1:00 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, at Islamic Society of Greater Springfield, 3000 Stanton St., Springfield, with burial to follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Jerusalem Fund.
