Virden, IL—Albert M. Ferrero, 103 of Virden, IL, passed away Tuesday January 16, 2018 at Sunrise Skilled Nursing and Rehab in Virden, IL.
Al was born September 7, 1914 in Virden, IL, a son of Mike M. and Ines (Gontero) Ferrero. He was a 1933 graduate of Virden High School and worked for 3 years for the CCC. Al was a U.S. Army veteran serving during WW II and was a purple heart recipient. He married Theresa L. Hensel Scott August 12, 1950 in Virden, IL, Al worked at Fiat-Allis in Springfield, IL as a welder, retiring after 35 years of service. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church Virden, IL, the Virden Knights of Columbus, the Virden American Legion Post #386 and the P.O.L.K. of A. Club of Springfield, IL. Al enjoyed gardening, playing pinochle and was an avid Cardinal fan.
Al is survived by his daughter, Alyse M. (Bob) Engel of Chatham, IL, a step-son, Charles B. (Marjorie) Scott of Dallas, TX, 5 grandchildren John Claborn, Jennifer (Matt) Holler, Michael & Bryan Scott and Mark (Ceclia) Scott, 3 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Preceding in death were his parents, wife, Theresa Ferrero, two sisters and two brothers.
Cremation rites have been accorded by Calvert & Ferry Funeral Home Virden, IL. There will be a Celebration of Life Gathering from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Thursday January 25, 2018 at Calvert & Ferry Funeral Home Virden, IL with Graveside burial of ashes at 11:30 a.m. in Virden Cemetery Virden, IL. Father James Palakudy officiating. Memorials may be made to the Virden History Mural or The Virden American Legion Post #386 Virden, IL. We remember all of the wondeful times at the K. of C. Bingo Hall. You done a great job and loved his fish dinners he ordered every Friday. Remember all the great memories you had with him during his lifetime. Sorry for his passing.
