SAN MIGUEL DE ALLENDE, Mexico - Albert W. Hillestad, 82, died Thursday, June 14, 2007, at his home in San Miguel de Allende.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol J. Hillestad.
Albert was born on July 11, 1924, in New Richmond, Wis. He was consecrated Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Springfield in February of 1972. After he retired from the church, he worked at Easter Seals Rehabilitation Center in Mobile, Ala. He moved to San Miguel in 1989. Albert enjoyed his retirement, was well respected in the community and spent time knotting rugs, volunteering with handicapped children at the Centro de Crecimiento, and spending time with the children in his neighborhood. He lived a full, happy life and was loved by all who met him. He will be greatly missed.
Albert is survived by his children, Mary Holland, Michael (SoYoung) Hillestad, Lisa (Robert) O'Keefe, William (Julie) Hillestad, James (Kathy) Hillestad, Christina (Dan) Gerstenmaier and Paul Hillestad; 14 grandchildren; three brothers; a sister; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions in Albert Hillestad's name may be made to Feed the Hungry. The U.S. address for donations is PMB 636, 220 N. Zapata Highway #11, Laredo, TX 78043-4464. A family memorial service will be held at a later date.

I was saddened to see the news of your father passing. I lost my mother last year. I know how difficult this time is for the family. It did bring back fond memories of the times we spent together growing up.
