Allen E. Mortimer
FARMERSVILLE, IL – Allen E. Mortimer, 89, of Farmersville, Ill., passed away Thursday, Feb. 19, 2015, at Pleasant Hill Village in Girard, Ill.
Allen was born Feb. 11, 1926, in Springfield, Ill., a son of Charles E. and Henrietta (Day) Mortimer. Allen was a 1943 graduate of Virden High School. He married Wanda L. Bickel on June 23, 1944, in Virden, Ill. Allen was a member of the Thayer United Methodist Church in Thayer, Ill. Allen farmed with his father after high school. Following a back injury, he was a bookkeeper in Pawnee. He then joined the Farmers and Merchant's State Bank in Virden in 1951 as a bookkeeper. After working at the bank, he retired in 1978 as Vice President. At that time he returned to the love of his life, farming.
Besides farming Allen was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, taking great pride in his children and grandchildren. Allen especially enjoyed sharing his knowledge and skills concerning farming, gardening, and woodworking. He also loved to tell stories.
Allen was active in community life. He was on the Virden School Board, active in Boy Scouts and the Virden Rotary Club. He also was a member of the Virden Cemetery Board for over 50 years.
Surviving Allen are his daughter, Nancy (Alex) Siudyla of Farmersville, Ill.; a son, Evan (Rosemary) Mortimer of Palmetto, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Terry (Bill Buske) Mortimer of Virden, Ill.; and several cousins.
Preceding Allen in death were his wife, Wanda L. Mortimer; daughter, Mary Kim Mortimer; and a son, Greg Mortimer.
Visitation will be from 9:30-11:30 a.m., Monday Feb. 23, 2015, at Thayer United Methodist Church in Thayer, Ill., with funeral services to follow at 11:30 a.m. The Rev. Charles L. Kurfman will officiate. Burial will be at Virden Cemetery.

So sorry to hear of your loss. I have fond memories working with Allen at the Farmers and Merchants State bank many many years ago. Also, there were the after-hours with Wanda and he which were great.

I will always have great memories of Allen. Especially way back in the day at Sunset Lake.......Allen and Wanda were wonderful, and enjoyed life to fullest!!

Lots of good memories with Allen and Wanda from way back. I used to work for them on the farm near Virden taking care of Evan and Gregg. That was before Nancy was born. They treated me like family. RIP Allen
