Anna Flynn Obituary

Anna May Flynn 1925 - 2017
Jacksonville, IL—Anna May Flynn, 92, of Jacksonville, died Saturday, December 23, 2017, at Cedarhurst in Jacksonville. She was born November 4, 1925, in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of Omar R. and Lucy Chase Nagle. She married Lawrence J. Flynn, Jr. on April 7, 1951, at the Church of Our Saviour Rectory, and he preceded her in death on August 18, 1997.
Mrs. Flynn is survived by five children, Kerry (John) Mackey of Springfield, Barney (Nancy) Flynn of Rochelle, Mike (Cindy) Flynn of Alexander, Mary (Paul) Scheerer of Jacksonville, and Kathy Browning of Nashville, Tennessee, her daughter-in-law, Jennifer Flynn of Jacksonville; 13 grandchildren, Brandi (Chuck) Ryan, Chad (Rachel) Flynn, Adam (Deyonne) Flynn, Greg (Meghan) Flynn, Mark (Heather) Flynn, Steve Flynn, Lucy (Keith) Crossin, Sarah Scheerer, L.J. Flynn, John (Ashley) Flynn, Lauren Browning, Alex (Shannon) Mackey, and Eric (Tracy) Mackey; and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, L.J. Flynn, one sister, Grace Rice, and two brothers, Omar R. Nagle and Chase Nagle.
Mrs. Flynn was a graduate of Peabody College for Teachers (now Vanderbilt University) in Nashville, Tennessee, and accepted her first teaching job at Washington School in Jacksonville. She met her husband on a blind date on St. Patrick's Day and eventually settled into her role as a farmer's wife and schoolteacher. She was a devoted member of the Church of Our Saviour, Catholic Daughters of America, and volunteered delivering Doorbell Dinners. Mrs. Flynn enjoyed traveling, reading, and cheering for the Chicago Cubs. Most of all, Mrs. Flynn was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, who traveled with a lawn chair in her car to attend a countless number of her grandchildren's events.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, December 27, 2017, at Church of Our Saviour in Jacksonville, with burial at Calvary Cemetery. The family will meet friends at the Williamson Funeral Home from 4 p.m. until 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday, at which time a prayer service will be conducted. Memorials are suggested to Memorial Home Services-Hospice, Jacksonville Public Library Outreach Services, or Catholic Daughters of America. Condolences may be left online at www.airsman-hires.com.
