Springfield, IL—August "Augie" E. Butcher, Jr., 83, of Springfield, died at 9:33 p.m. on Thursday, October 25, 2018, at his home.
Cremation was accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies.
Graveside Ceremony: 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 1, 2018, at Camp Butler National Cemetery with Rev. Jon Bormann officiating and military honors to be provided by the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County and the Department of Defense.
Memorial contributions may be made to Friend-in-Deed, 1 Copley Plaza, Springfield, IL 62701, American Parkinson Disease Association, Midwest Chapter, Central DuPage Hospital Center, 1800 N. Main St., Suite 215, Wheaton, IL 60187, or Dementia Society of America, P.O. Box 600, Doylestown, PA 18901.
The family of August "Augie" E. Butcher, Jr. is being served by Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield.

I never got to know my grandpa much before he passed but I wished I did so I could share more but the one thing i remember is sharing a Bomb Pop with him a long time ago. I still miss you Grandpa

Just heard of Augie's passing. Sure am going to miss stopping by the old College Street haunts to visit when I make my way back to my hometown. Thinking of Augie and family sure has stirred up a lot of childhood memories. Baseball days with Brad. Getting to ride in Augies old green work truck with the shift on the column. Block parties on College Street. Going to Godfathers pizza after games. Not telling Augie that we used his work van to pull a tube behind it in the snow with Brad, Steve Vespa & Brian Brush. Flashlight tag on the street growing up. Cutting the grass behind our houses in the field and listening to our Dads in regards to who did a better job. I could go on and on with beautiful memories I have growing up with Augie around. My thoughts and prayers go out to Josie, Brad, Jolynn Brock and there families. What I wouldn't give to hear Augies whistle to call his kids back to the house on College Street.

Just hear of Augie's passing from Tod who called us from Virginia. And right now Rich is going down Memory Lane and there are a lot of them!!! Plus Rich knew the whole family. Excellent picture and we are thinking about you and miss all the old days. Love Rich and Mary Keltner

Augie and I were in the Army together, back in the 1950's when Augie was 18. We were buddies then and remained friends. He was a go-to guy that was always available to help when ever asked. He certainly will be missed.

Augie was a kind soul to anyone he met with a big smile and a kind heart. Augie was a hard worker in the construction trade who always did the job the right way and would never take a short cut no matter what the cost. He taught us how to work hard and smart, but also how to have fun while working with a funny joke or story. Augie will always live in our hearts and prayers. May God bless the Butcher family in this time of sorrow.

I met you and Augie and later your kids in the mid-60's living across the street from you at 3416. He was always the nicest guy and was good friends with my father. I'm so sorry for your loss.
