SPRINGFIELD - Barbara Lou Senalik, 49, of Springfield passed away unexpectedly at her home on the afternoon of Friday, Feb. 1, 2008.
She was born Feb. 16, 1958, the daughter of Walter Senalik and Margie Ann Chester Lamb Senalik of Springfield; both preceded her in death.
Barb's survivors include her lifelong companion, Jack Douglas Schultz, and her daughter, Lindsay Marie Senalik, both of Springfield.
Barb worked for the state of Illinois for more than 29 years, serving her last years in the Department of Workforce Development. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, where she previously taught Sunday school. She enjoyed taking cruises to the Caribbean and vacationing to Walt Disney World with her family. Barb cherished the time on their family's boat on Lake Springfield and loved her animals dearly. Her trademark of being organized kept her life and family in order. She was a wonderfully funny and vibrant daughter, mother and friend.
The visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2008, at Staab Funeral Home. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2008, at Staab Funeral Home. The Rev. Paul Olson will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery following the service.
Memorials may be made to the Sangamon Avenue Veterinary Clinic.

Barb was such a great help during the recent loss of my sister, who she working with at IDOR. They stayed in touch to the end. She came to the house and hospital to help with some of the difficult paperwork that my mother and I were left to deal with. She was kind enough to come to the hospital and sit with us during her week stay. There was not a day that went by without a call or visit from Barb and I will never forget her unending concern and generous kindness.

Such a shock and so soon after losing her own mother. I only met Barb a few years ago when both of our Moms became residents of River Birch but it was apparent how devoted she was to Margie. What a great person she was. I will miss preparing Thanksgiving dinner with her there. We always had such a good time. Jack and Lindsey: I am am so sorry for your loss.

Lindsay~
It has been many years since you have babysat for our children, Abbey and Anthony, but we still remember you and your mother. We were so shocked and saddened to hear of your mom's passing. We were home on Friday when the ambulance went down the street. I had prayed that nothing serious had happened to someone in the neighborhood. I will never forget her calling me a few years ago when she was concerned about a car hanging out at the corner of our street. She was so concerned about Anthony playing on the side of the house where I couldn't see him. She was so afraid that something was going to happen to him. She even followed the car around the neighborhood! I so appreciated her concern and her phone call alerting me. I am so sorry for your loss and you will be in our thoughts and prayers.
Our Deepest Sympathy,
Jeff, Jackie, Abbey, & Anthony Rocco

I am so sorry to hear the news of Barb's death. I was shocked when my Father, Wayne Senalik, told me she was gone. Barb was Dad's first cousin and I know she had such a special place in his and our heart's. Even though I have lived in CA almost my whole life I knew Barb almost my whole life too. I remember her coming to visit us one summer in the 70's, I must have been 7 or 8 , she seemed to my child's eyes as one of the kindest and free spirited women I had ever met, and it turns out that that was the way she lived her life, with kindness and a free spirit. The last time I saw Barb was when she and her family made the trip to Las Vegas in 2006 for my wedding, that was wonderful in and of it self. I know Barb will be missed by so many people and you can count myself and the California Senalik's among them. We will miss you Barb! Love always. Ryan

We've known Barb for years and she was always good for a laugh. Jack, their daughter, Lindsay, and Barb's mother who recently passed away was her life. Barb and Jack coached our daughter's soft ball team 15 years ago and they were always encouraging and patient. They are a tight knit family and may God Bless Jack and Lindsay with the strength they need to get them through this very difficult time.

Barb's humor always brought a smile or a hearty laugh when we talked, mostly on the phone. She had the ability to brighten every day no matter how difficult the circumstances may have seemed, she would bring light to the situation and her colorful descriptions at one point literally made me fall out of my chair. Always organized, she was always in control and the love that she shared with Lindsey and Jack was apparent in the way she talked with a sparkle in her eyes. She will be missed but her spirit carries on in our memories.
