C. Dean Snoke
MT. ZION -C. Dean Snoke, 84, of Mt. Zion, IL., went to his Heavenly Home at 10:54 A.M. on Monday (01-31-2011) at Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday (02-05-2011) at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Friday (02-04-2011) at the funeral home. Burial will be in Friends Creek Cemetery, Argenta, IL. Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home are handling the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the C. Dean Snoke Memorial Fund.
Dean was born on May 25, 1926 in Decatur, IL., the son of Wilbur David and Opal (Arthur) Snoke, during the Great Depression. The family moved to Hanna City, to Elmwood, and to Peoria. He enlisted in the United States Navy in April 1943. He served his country in the Pacific Theater in WWII. He married Dorothy Babbit from Tremont, IL. in 1946 and they had four children. They later divorced. He married Guyneith L. Davis on October 29, 1961 in Farmington, IL.
He worked for the Wabash Railroad for ten years, Buckley's Painting, Hudi Herschey Co., Northtown Ford, Eldorado Apparel, Modern Income Life Insurance and later started his own agency. For the past few years he has worked at home based businesses.
He was a member of The Heavenly Chariots Chapter of the Christian Motorcycle Association. He established the "Blessing of the Bikes" in 1988 to bless motorcycle riders and their bikes. The first one at Spitler Woods State Park. This has grown to over fourteen hundred bikes in 2010. He even blessed bikes that came down to the Heartland Manor Nursing Home in 2009 and 2010.
He was a founding member of the Promised Land Ministries Church in Warrensburg, IL. He taught Sunday School and visited the homebound who could not make it to church. He was also made Honorary Chaplain at Heartland Manor Nursing Home where he taught a Bible study class, prayed for those in need of prayer and families with family members dying. He was very caring and compassionate.
He is survived by his wife, three daughters: Cherri Mennemeyer and husband Bernie of Springfield, IL., Belinda High and husband Jim of Kenney, IL., and Jan Canini and husband Ben of Gahanna, Ohio.; fourteen grandchildren, fourty great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Dedee Ferris, son William David Snoke, sister Lois Palmer, brothers Ralph Snoke, Gary Snoke, and Gordon Snoke.
