Debra Schroeder Obituary

Debra Lynn Schroeder 1956 - 2021
Springfield, IL—Debra Lynn Schroeder, 64, of Springfield, died on April 15, 2021 at Memorial Medical Center. She was born September 27, 1956 in Bloomington to Gerald "Bud" and Marilyn VanHoosier Hornke. She married Tedd R. Schroeder on September 23, 1975 and he survives.
Also surviving are her children, Joe William (Kristi) of Edwardsville, Laura (Jeffrey) of Atwater and Jason R. "JR" (Brittany) of Chatham; six grandchildren, Hank, Braden, Luke, Logan Remington, and Georgia; and one sister, Leslie (Jim) Bennett of Webster Grove, MO.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Debi grew up in the Florida Keys as a younger child. She cherished those Florida memories, especially the collecting of seashells, which she still had. She absolutely adored her husband Tedd and loved the many road trips in the convertible with him. Her love for her family was immense, supporting any activity of her children and doted on her grandchildren in whatever it is they were doing. Some of her favorite travel spots were Lake Michigan, Grafton Wineries and Colorado. She was also very athletic, playing volleyball and softball in high school, as well as through her thirties. Debi's looks could light up any room, from the long blonde hair to her contagious smile.
Debi worked for Horace Mann as an IT Trainer for thirty years and at SIU School of Medicine as a Software Specialist Analyst for fifteen years.
Private services will be held at Staab Funeral Home - Springfield with burial at Calvary Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Simmons Cancer Institute at SIU.
CDC Protocol shall be followed.

Just heard from friends in Springfield that Deb had passed away. Very sad and so sorry for all her friends and family. I worked with Deb at HM for many years and considered her a friend as well. She always had a smile and a laugh ready for all. Great work memories as well as having many great times playing volleyball at lunch and at the occasional HM IT bar outings after work. Picture is from 2009 with some of our old HM IT group getting together. This is last time I saw Deb, I believe. She will be missed by many...

I remember Deb from my working days at Horace Mann and SIUSOM. She was a person that made you smile because she had a smile that helped create friendliness in others. I left SIUSOM in 2015 and still remember her wishing me well in my retirement. She was a person that cared about her friends and their lives. I was concerned to hear about her health problems and saddened when I saw her obituary. My sincerest sympathies are extended to her loved ones at this time. Rest in Peace, Deb.

Ted, Your family was my neighbor when I moved to Fallingbrook in the eighties. Your wife was a beautiful person. My sincere sorrow to your family at her passing. You will miss her. I was happy to read about her life because I have not heard anything about your family for years. God Bless her soul.

Deb and I have been friends for at least 40 years. I was shocked to learn of her passing and wasn’t aware that she was having health issues of late. I am deeply sorrowful to hear of her suffering. May she be flying with the angels now, free from all pain.
I’m sorry for your great loss Ted and family. May God bless you with wonderful memories of laughter and precious family time shared; a loss on earth is a gain in Heaven. Godspeed your healing hearts until you meet again.
Deb had a huge presence wherever she went. She could light up a room with her countenance, positive attitude and beautiful smile. She honored her family always. I had great respect and admiration for her. She will shine in my heart forever too.

My sincere condolences to all of her family. You all have been thru a lot and she told me what great care you all were giving her and sent pics of you all... she was so proud! As everyone has said, there were very few times that her face was not aglow and she was not sprinkling sunshine in her wake. I'm sure she is doing that still and watching over and protecting you from the other side. Her family was everything to her. RIP Deb.
