Dorothy Maloney Obituary

Dorothy Ann Maloney 1944 - 2017
PEORIA, IL - Dorothy Ann (Bale) Maloney, 73, of Peoria, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, March 13, 2017, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Springfield, Ill., on March 9, 1944, to Mary Alice (Dodds) and George Bale of Auburn, Ill. She married Thomas Maloney in 1966.
She is survived by her three children: Pamela A. Alwan (Joseph Jr.) of Princeville, Cindy R. Morris (John), and Thomas M. Maloney II (Erin), both of Peoria. She also leaves behind her 12 beloved grandchildren: Mason Alwan (Natalia Wojnarowski) of Chicago, Caitlin, Matthew, and Joseph Alwan III of Princeville, Jordan and Taylor Morris of Peoria, and Merrick, Aidan, Quinn, Brennan, Sloan, and Elliot Maloney of Peoria. She is also survived by her brother, George Evan Bale of Springfield; cousin, Alexandria "Pete" Dodds of Tucson, Ariz.; and sisters-in-law, Sandy (Rick) Kopp, and Dianna Sue (Jerry) Twyman.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She was very proud of her rural roots and the family's Centennial Farm in Auburn, Ill. As a young girl, Dorothy was active in 4-H, raising livestock, riding horses, and loved reading books. She graduated from Methodist College of Nursing in 1965.
When her children were growing up, Dorothy was active in the Hines School PTO, Christian Women's Club, First United Methodist Church of Peoria, and Willow Knolls Country Club.
She was a devoted mother and grandmother who never missed a family birthday and loved keeping track of and attending her grandchildren's activities.
She was an avid student of current events, loved watching the news, and reading the paper every day of her life. She never missed the opportunity to vote in an election. She loved her country and was always interested in having a discussion about local, state and national issues.
Dorothy will be remembered for her devotion to her family, whom she loved with all she had. Her perseverance through her long battle with rheumatoid arthritis was admired by her family and all who knew her.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at Wright & Salmon Mortuary in Peoria.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 16, 2017, at Staab Polk Funeral Home in Chatham, Ill., with a one hour prior visitation. Pastor Mark Merrill will officiate.
A private burial will take place at Cumberland Sugar Creek Cemetery in Auburn, Ill.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to: OSF Hospice or The Arthritis Foundation.

Mrs. Maloney had a heavenly sweetness about her that made you feel goodness and love. These attributes she passed on to her children. I well remember her enthusiasm, in spite of her pain, going to Quincy University to see my son play basketball. Frank MacIntosh treasures this memory too. May prayers, peace and angels surround her and her family. Love in Christ Jesus.
