SPRINGFIELD, IL - Frank Emil Hermanek, age 95, of Springfield, IL, passed away on Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL.
He was born on May 20, 1920 in Berwyn, IL, the son of Frank Joseph and Marie (Kozel) Hermanek.
Frank was united in marriage on February 15, 1947 in Aurora, IL to the former Helen Junkins and they spent the next 68 happy years together. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army. For his service during WWII, he was selected for one of Springfield's first Honor Flights to Washington, D.C. He enjoyed a successful career as a sales representative and was a member of the Plano American Legion Post #395. His friendly and outgoing nature and love of the outdoors combined perfectly with his devotion to his golf game and socializing with his many friends. Frank was an excellent woodworker and among his numerous creations were the toys that he annually made for children at Christmas. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle who will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Hermanek of Springfield, IL; his seven children, Judy Fairchild of Villa Park, IL, Linda (David) Hastert of Oswego, IL, Kathy (John) Wallanches of Hanover, IL, Ann (Mike) Cremeens of Springfield, IL, Debbie (Gary) Reidelberger of Springfield, IL, Mike Hermanek of Riviera Beach, FL, and Phil (Christina) Hermanek of Springfield, IL; thirteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Maryann Blakely of Bella Vista, AR and Carol Kolka of Plano, IL; as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Marie Hermanek; and his grandson, Jonathan Rickerl.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, August 17, 2015 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 901 N. Center St., Plano, IL with Father Andy Davy, M.I.C. officiating. Interment will follow in St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery in Bristol, IL.
Friends may visit from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Sunday, August 16, 2015 at the Larson-Nelson Funeral Home, 1010 W. South St., Plano, IL.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Plano American Legion Post #395.

Our deepest sympathy to all of the Hermanek family. It was a pleasure to live across the street in Plano and we will always remember the great store that Frank and his family ran downtown Plano for many years. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

Frank Hermanek was the truest friend I ever had, we've been friends for over 35 years. It won't be possible to replace him, he will be greatly missed. My condolences to his wife and family.
