Fredrick Giles Cody
JACKSONVILLE - Frederick Giles Cody, 75, of Jacksonville, passed away Sunday, February 24, 2013, at the Valley Regional Medical Center in Brownsville, TX.
He was born December 20, 1937, in Jacksonville, the son of Willard G. and Margery J. Mayhew Cody. He married Carol Ann Manta on August 6, 1960, in Jacksonville. She survives along with two daughters, Leslie (Paul) Yura of New Braunfels, TX, and Theresa (Mark) Bailey of Issaquah, WA; one son, Richard Todd Cody of South Padre Island, TX; one granddaughter, Emma Grace Yura of New Braunfels, TX; two sisters, Charlotte J. Cave of Elgin, SC, and Mary Jo (Vance) Patterson of Morgantown, NC; two brothers, Jon E. Cody of Harlingen, TX, and Richard M. (Donna) Cody of Jacksonville; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Cody was a third-generation Funeral Director and for over 50 years was an owner/partner in the Cody and Son Memorial Home in Jacksonville as well as the Schaefer-Cody Funeral Home in Meredosia. He was a life-time member of Grace United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Jacksonville Rotary Club for more than 50 years, and was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and the Air National Guard.
Fred loved attending the Chapel by the Sea Church while in Texas. He had varied interests, many hobbies, and had never met a stranger.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Grace United
Methodist Church, with burial in the Diamond Grove Cemetery. The family will meet friends 4-6 p.m. Monday at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Jacksonville. Memorials are suggested to the Chapel by the Sea, Isla Blanca Park, South Padre Island, TX, or to the Bob Freesen Y.M.C.A.

Carol, Leslie, Teri and Todd, I was so very sad to hear of Fred's passing. fondly remember all of us living on Douglas and enjoying him telling me how Grandma Coop was always trying to sell him tickets to something! He always bought, but it always came at the price of a pie! Such great memories!

We send our sympathy to all of Fred's family. We have not been acquainted with Fred for a long time, but he was such a sincere, fun loving, gentle man. He made us feel so welcome when we first joined Grace United Methodist Church. We always enjoyed talking with him, and shall miss him so much. Especially about Diners, Drive Inn's and Dives! It just won't be the same with out Fred being there.
We will keep his family in our prayers.
