SPRINGFIELD, IL - Gary L. Satterlee, 69, died at 6:42 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 10, 2015, at Memorial Medical Center.
Gary was born on Feb. 19, 1946, in Litchfield, the son of Kay and Geraldine E. Hauptman Satterlee. He married Shirley Louise Hefley on Sept. 5, 1965, in Litchfield.
Gary graduated from Litchfield High School in 1964 and proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during Vietnam. He was employed by the State of Illinois Comptroller's Office. Gary was a past Commander of American Legion Post 32, past Commander and charter member of Squadron 32 Sons of American Legion, and past State Commander of the Sons of the American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Satterlee of Springfield; sons, Scott (wife, Lori) of Murphysboro, John (wife, Susan) of Sherman, and Brian Satterlee of O'Fallon, Ill.; daughter, Sandi (fiancé, Frank Staley) Satterlee of Springfield; seven grandchildren, Jessica (Parker Miller) Satterlee, Branden (Jessie) Satterlee, Shelby (fiancé, Matt Ahlfield) Satterlee, Nicholas Satterlee, Michael Satterlee, Morgan Satterlee, and Matthew Satterlee; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4–6 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 13, 2015, at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th Street, Springfield.
Funeral Ceremony: 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 14, 2015, at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home.
Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park with military honors provided by Inter-Veterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County.
Memorial contributions may be made to American Legion Post 32, 1120 Sangamon Ave., Springfield, IL 62702.

Gary was such an outgoing neighbor. We would need a flag and we wanted him to get us one and we would pay for it but he always said you are not paying for it. He will definitely be missed You all have our Sympthy. RIP Gary

Gary was a good co-worker and I enjoyed his sense of humor. He helped me adjust to being a state employee.
