SPRINGFIELD - Genevieve Arnolia Buckner, 82, of Springfield passed away Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008, at Memorial Medical Center.
She was born Sept. 24, 1926, in Columbia, Mo., to Vollie and Nellie Holland Johnson. She married Thomas L. Buckner Sr. on Sept. 13, 1952; he preceded her in death. Also preceding in death were a son, Thomas Jr.; her parents; and two brothers, Eugene Sr. and Richard Johnson Sr.
She retired from Springfield School District 186 after more than 20 years of service. Mrs. Buckner was also kitchen coordinator for Asbury Methodist Church's children's after-school program.
Mrs. Buckner was a dedicated member of Grace United Methodist Church, serving as district treasurer and treasurer of the local unit of the United Methodist Women.
She is survived by two daughters, Nellie Buckner and Dorothy (Alvin) Ewing Sr., both of Springfield; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; two sisters, Lena Kelley and Mildred Hannibal, both of Columbia, Mo.; a brother, James (Stella) Johnson Sr. of Columbia, Mo.; two sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and a great friend, Melinda Kerr.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until time of services at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008, at Grace United Methodist Church, 1612 E. Capitol Ave. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
James D. Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Nellie & Dorothy we are sorry to hear about your mother who was very close and dear to the Brooks Family for years. And will be missed very much. If you ever need anything we are still there for you and will be as long as you need us to be. Mrs. Buckner was one of the most sweetest women that we knew and was always there for us through good and bad times. And now we will be there for you and your family. God Bless You.
