Tabacchi
SPRINGFIELD, IL - George L. Tabacchi, 72, of Springfield and formerly of Forsyth, Ill., died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2014, at Memorial Medical Center.
George was born March 4, 1942, to John and Pearl (Hall) Tabacchi. He married Michele Higdon on Nov. 1, 1969, at St. Patrick's in Decatur. He worked at Decatur Caterpillar for 37 years as a journeyman Tool Grinder, retiring in 2002.
George, an avid golfer, was a member of the Pasfield Men's League; he also enjoyed watching Illini Basketball.
George is survived by his wife, Michele Tabacchi; daughter, Gina (Ed) Canny of Chatham; son, Brent (Sheila) Tabacchi of Cincinnati, Ohio; grandchildren: Sara and Ryan Canny, and Ella Tabacchi; brothers and sisters: John (Jane) Tabacchi of Kentucky, Dean (Paula) Tabacchi of Alabama, Beverly (Pat) Pinkerton of Ohio, Susan (Denny) Griffiths of Arizona, Patricia (Larry) Rusher of Illinois, and Joyce Stevenson of Florida.
Preceding George in death were his parents and a sister, Jean Phillips.
The family will receive guests on Thursday, Dec. 4, 2014, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 245 N. Amos Ave., Springfield, IL 62702, from 10 a.m. until the time of a memorial mass at 11 a.m.

Walt and I were saddened by the news of George's passing. He will be remembered as a kind and special guy with a warm and friendly smile which seemed to light up a room, I remember our fun days with our boys, Brent and John, during their years at St. T. The entire neighborhood will miss George. He had a real sense of community. I will miss finding out what he did at golf each day. Michele, you picked a great guy but I know you already knew that.
