Harold
"Lawrence" Moore
SPRINGFIELD - Harold "Lawrence" Moore, 79, of Springfield, passed away Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013, at his residence.
Harold "Lawrence" was born Dec. 19, 1933, in Springfield, the second of nine children, to Harold T. and Beatrice Fogle Moore.
Harold "Lawrence" graduated from Lanphier High School in 1951. He subsequently was drafted in the Army and served from 1956 to 1958, having stays at Fort Leonardwood and Fort Bliss.
Harold "Lawrence" had three very diverse careers: he spent 12 years as a Yard Clerk with the Illinois Terminal/Gulf, Mobile, & Ohio; he owned his own residential construction company for 13 years building homes around the Springfield area; and he eventually retired from the Illinois Department on Aging where he served as their Print Shop Supervisor until 1999.
Harold "Lawrence" loved working in his garage, working on just about anything and everything. He had a particular affinity for his railroad cars. He made many trips in the Midwest and to Texas to participate in club rides and was involved with NARCOA. He was known to have intense and thought-provoking conversations and didn't mind sharing his opinions, on just about anything.
In his youth he enjoyed boxing, stirring up his goats, and racing; whether it be cars or boats. As a young adult he was actively involved in square dancing and was a caller for the Illinois Square Dance Callers Association.
Harold "Lawrence" is survived by his five children, Harold (Edie) of Virden, Karen (Kendall) Mahan of Bloomington, Dennis of Delaware, Ohio, Dan (Jeanne) of Mansfield, Texas, and Kelly Moore of Normal; his eight siblings, Wilma Reichardt of Colorado Springs, Colo., John of Loami, Jim of Plano, Texas, Wayne (Shirley) of Kiowa, Colo., Carolyn Masinelli of Staunton, Wanda (John) Webb of Annandale, Va., Merle of Woodinville, Wash., and Joe of Florissant, Colo.; his nine grandchildren, Tim Carmichael of Frisco, Colo., David Moore (fiancé, Kelly) of Pecatonica, Josh (Molly) Brandt of Highlands Ranch, Colo., Jacob (Meagan) Brandt of Aurora, Colo., Melissa Mahan of Bloomington, Meghan (Dillon) Spencer of Deer Creek, Jason Moore of Owings Mills, Md., and Jared and Caleb Lerblance of Normal; and five great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
