Herbert W. Leach
SPRINGFIELD, IL - Herbert W. Leach, 84, formerly of Girard, passed away Saturday morning, December 28, 2013, at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, Ill.
He was born November 12, 1929, in Springfield, Ill., a son of Harrison and Lucille Wroughton Leach.
He married the former Shirley Jean Huson on June 13, 1948, and she preceded him in death on August 18, 2013.
Herbert graduated from Girard with the class of 1947. Herbert was a member of Westside Christian Church in Springfield and former member of the Girard Christian Church.
Herbert went from being a dairy farmer to owning and operating Leach's Building Materials and retired after 12 years with the Illinois Dept. of Revenue. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing and going to garage sales and auctions. In his younger years, Herbert liked to square dance.
Surviving are his daughters, Lana (Daniel) McKennedy of Virden, Cheryl Dillman of Bloomington, Debbie (Frank) Crocks of Girard; son, Bob (Donna) Leach of Girard; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great- granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a brother and three sisters.
Visitation will be held Thursday, January 2, 2014 at 10 a.m. until service time at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, January 2, 2014, at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home in Girard. Marty Nagle, Chaplain of St. John's Hospital in Springfield, will officiate.
Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in rural Girard.
Memorials may be made to the Girard Fire & Rescue Squad.
