Jesse Clayton Hamner, Sr.
SPRINGFIELD - Jesse Clayton Hamner, Sr., 74, died on November 14, 2011 at 9:55 p.m. at Memorial Medical Center. He was born on September 22, 1937 in Mt. Vernon to George Washington and Charley Myrtle Poole Hamner.
Jesse worked for the State of Illinois Physical Services as a custodian and retired in 1998. He also worked for the City of Springfield as a Supervisor of Environmental Services for 38 years and retired in 2004.
He worked both these jobs concurrently to care for his family. Jesse also served his country in the United States Army.
Jesse was a member of Zion Missionary Baptist Church, and he spent 32 years with his wife, Robert Jane Alexander. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Leaving to cherish his memory: wife, Robert Jane Alexander of Springfield: two sons, Jesse C. Hamner Jr. of Las Vegas, NV and Korey K. Alexander of Springfield: three daughters, Michele Woolford of Atlanta, GA, Pamela Hamner of Denver, CO, and Shaun Cruise of Los Angeles, CA: four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Monday, November 21, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Zion Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Samuel W. Hale, Jr. officiating. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to American Cancer Association in Jesse's memory. W.W. White Memorial Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
