Joan T. Roberts
VIRDEN – Joan T. Roberts, 82 of Virden, IL, passed away at 1:15 p.m. Wednesday, October 20, 2010, at her home.
Joan was born September 29, 1928 in Greene, Ohio, a daughter of Claude and Dorothy (Smith) Taylor. She married Andrew J. "Andy" Roberts on November 21, 1951, in Greene, Ohio.
Joan was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Virden, IL. She was also a member of the D.A.R. and the Huguenot Society of America.
She was actively involved in state politics: Former assistant to the Minority Whip of the State of IL, former precinct committeeman and candidate for State Representative and served on the Board of Directors for the Macoupin County Health Dept.
Joan is survived by her beloved husband Andy, her loving son, Andrew J. (Melinda) Roberts of Girard, IL, loving daughters, Darla N. (Robert) Warner of Westlake village, CA, Nancy Jo (companion, Thomas Magaletta) Roberts of Delray Beach, FL and Jennifer A. (Kurt) Schroeder of Shiloh, IL., 9 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, a sister, Nancy Donnell of Ft. Wayne, IN.,a brother Edwin Taylor of Columbus,OH., and several nieces and nephews.
Joan was preceded in death by a infant daughter, Dru Ann Roberts and a sister, Doris Porter.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, October 24, 2010, at the Calvert & Ferry Funeral Home, Virden, IL., Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 25, 2010, at the funeral home. Pastor Sue Sawers will be officiating; burial will be in the Virden Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society for Breast Cancer Research.

Many years ago I rode with Joan to Springfield to work every day. She was such a dignified lady with a pretty smile. Interesting to talk with and always very proud of her children. May your memories sustain you during this time of sorrow.
