Joseph BOLIN Obituary

Joseph Franklin Bolin, MD

At 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013, at St. John's Hospice and in the presence of his family, Dr. Joseph Franklin Bolin left this life to be reunited with his family in Heaven.

Joe was born in Denver, Colo., to Charles and Freeda Bolin on Sept. 10, 1942. He married Janette Unterbrink on April 30, 1966.

He is survived by his ever-loving wife of 47 years, Janette Bolin; his two daughters, Jessica (Derek) Moss and Amanda Bolin; two sisters, Mary (John) Smith and Linda (Darrell) Pape; two grandchildren, Leighton and Olivia Moore; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two children, Brent Charles and Laura Elizabeth Bolin, and his mother and father.

Joe grew up in the St. Louis area. He graduated from Edwardsville High School in 1960, attended the St. Louis College of Pharmacy from which he graduated and then worked as a pharmacist at a number of pharmacies including Ricci's Pharmacy in Bethalto, Ill., for five years. He then decided to study medicine and graduated from Chicago Medical School in 1974. His residency was at SIU Medical School in Springfield, followed by his fellowship at St. Louis University Medical School. Dr. Bolin completed his medical education and is board certified in Internal Medicine, Allergy, Immunology and Pulmonary medicine. Dr. Bolin practiced at Central Illinois Allergy and Respiratory Clinic in Springfield from 1978 until the early 1990's. He was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 1983 and was slowly forced to give up the career that he loved so much.

Joe had a great love for golf, bird hunting and fishing. Thankfully, with the help of his friend and helper Tim Wilkins he was able to enjoy these things all these years.

To the Bolin family, You are in my prayers. I remember when my mother, Carol Clouse had worked for him and Dr. Paul and I met him. He was such a sweet person. Then when my mom passed away back in March 1999, him and Dr. Paul came to the funeral and gave me a big hug and said I was in there prayers and that mom was in a better place, just to know that there is such wonderful people in this world. Janette and family...I am sorry to hear about Dr. Bolin. Albert Lamken (West Fairview) was my grandfather. I had worked at Memorial when Laura died and Brent was a friend of my oldest son. I just wanted to say that I am so sorry for your loss and wish all of you peace during this sad time.

Dr Bolin was our doctor for several people in our family, he was always available when you needed him and so caring. He never seemed rushed even with a full waiting room. Not many doctors today have his caring professionalism. Truly the best!

My condolences to his family
